Nike executive George Raveling spoke with reporters on Thursday and mentioned that draft prospect Lonzo Ball’s father, LaVar Ball is a problem. According to Michael Smith of SportsBusiness Journal, Raveling said the elder Ball is “the worst thing to happen to basketball in the last hundred years.”
In February, he said on KCUB Sports Radio 1290 (h/t ESPN.com) that he would discourage other teams from drafting his son so he could land with the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Draft. He also proudly told TMZ Sports (h/t Kyle Boone of CBSSports.com) that his son was better than 2x NBA MVP Stephen Curry: “He’s going to be better than Steph Curry. Steph Curry’s really good, but my son is young, he’s got time to go. And you only consider him good because he won a couple of championships. What if he didn’t win no championships? He made some shots at the right time. But he’s not as young as my boy.”
He even said that he could have beat Michael Jordan in one-on-one in his college career at Washington State. He said, he is seeking a $1 billion shoe deal for all three of his sons.
