Following JAY-Z’s 4:44 release, rumors began to circulate surrounding his relationship with fellow emcee Kanye West, also bringing to light West’s decision to part ways with the former’s Tidal streaming platform.
As orginally reported, the plans to leave Tidal had nothing to do with Jay and Ye’s personal beef, but rather monetary issues where West says he is owed $3 million by the streaming service, further claiming that Tidal’s right to exclusivity impeded on the sales of his last album, The Life of Pablo.
More recently, Billboard has confirmed that Tidal no longer owns any exclusive rights to West’s music, signaling the official end to his relationship with the company.
According to the publication, a source close to the situation reports that Tidal’s rights have been terminated due to its failure to uphold its financial obligations.
