Wale’s Shine album arrived in late April of this year, and three months after the debut of his fifth studio album, the rapper has announced his plans to step back for a while.

It was on Sunday [July 23] that the D.C.-reared emcee took to Instagram to post a photo that shows him sitting in the chair of celebrity barber Renaldo Williams as Williams held a few strands of Wale’s signature dreads between a pair of scissors.

The caption read, “Man idk what I’m doin but I know I need to make changes..find my happiness, could this be phase one? I’ll be leaving you guys for a while.. my friend @issarae says it’s time for a change up..my man @renaldowilliams says it’s time.”

Wale’s contemplation of “leaving for a while” certainly raises  speculation on whether not the rapper is referring to a hiatus from social media or a step back from rap altogether.

Shortly after the release of Shine, Wale did reveal on Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning Show that he would be working on new music with Pharrell in the forma of a go-go album, a style of music particularly popular in his native D.C.

While we wouldn’t want to see a hold on the music, let’s hope that Wale finds what it is that he’s looking for.
