The 2004 cult classic film Mean Girls is set to be adapted as a present day stage musical. The musical will feature the same characters and story line as the comedy film, with an addition of smartphones. Thus, the Plastics will have social media to their disposal.

Previews for the musical will begin March 12th and opening April 8 at the August Wilson Theater. Following previews in Washington at the National Theater from October 31st to December 3rd.

Tina Fey, who also wrote the film’s screenplay, wrote the musical’s book. The music is composed by her husband, Jeff Richmond, with lyrics by Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde). Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon) will serve as the musical’s director and choreographer.
