Saturday Night Live came swinging out the gate for the premiere of their 43rd season. La La Land’s Ryan Gosling was the host, with musical performance by JAY-Z.

Considering the theme of his latest album 4:44 and what has been going on in the world, people assumed that Hov was going to come through with Trump-protest like performance. And he did.

The first song he performed was “Bam”, and he brought out Damian Marley while sporting a custom Colin Kaepernick jersey. Hov took off the jersey for the second song, and rocked an all white tee to sing the somber title track, “4:44”.

In other JAY-Z related news, Tidal pledges to send a plane with 200,000 pounds of supplies to aid the victims in Puerto Rico affected by Hurricane Maria. The streaming service will also donate all proceeds from the annual benefit concert to those affected by all recent hurricanes, and the earthquake in Mexico.

Check out the performances below, and stay tuned for SNL next week with Gal Gadot hosting and Sam Smith performing.
