Christian Louboutin’s red-soled shoes has become an icon in the Hip Hop community. His brand has gained the admiration of so many people like JAY-Z, Kanye West, Future, Nicki Minaj, and now Cardi B.
Cardi’s platinum-selling, No. 1 hit references the brand in a notable line: “These is red bottoms, these is bloody shoes”. The line breathed new life to the luxury footwear because now everyone is out here trying to make money moves.
The New York Times caught up with the French designer and he admitted that he wasn’t a rap fan but he does know of the Bronx emcee. “She’s a rapper? This ‘Yellow’ song? […] I don’t know much more than that, to be honest,” Christian said. But he is open to meeting her one day, and that’ll probably make Cardi very happy considering that that she has about 90 pairs of red bottoms.
Cardi’s stylist unveiled the shocking amount of shoes the rapper has in an interview with Billboard. He also explained why the luxury shoe is a status symbol in the Bronx.
She has to have over 90 pairs […] She usually buys a pair or two every couple of weeks. Where she’s from, when girls are ready to get dressed up that’s what you wear. And in real life, before ‘Bodak’ blew up, she wore red bottoms because that’s what it means to make it in the Bronx. It’s a status symbol that the masses can relate to; everyday girls work hard and save up their money to have that shoe. Cardi did the same.
