This release is the first single from the album, with the visuals being directed by the iconic BuffNerds.

The single serves as a release to the soundtrack of the film The System, which tackles the role that race and corruption play in America’s prison systems, the video shows the intersection between politics and skin color.

Drawing comparisons to the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Marquel likes to think of his aesthetic as “music with a soul.”

“There’s a lot of music I listened to including Lil’ Wayne as well as Erykah Badu and Jill Scott. And I’m feeling Anderson.Paak’s vibe. It’s inspirational,” says Marquel. “But no matter what type of rapper you want to be, just pay homage. Don’t disrespect the legends.”

This piece of wisdom coming from a kid who didn’t used to listen to anyone who tried to instill gems in him. These days, he is listening to not only what the wise ones who came before him have to say, but to what the universe is telling him.

“It’s about appealing to those you wouldn’t normally appeal to, and to bridge gaps by giving people what they want and what they need at the same time,” says Marquel. “I will get people who don’t listen or won’t listen, to listen and then to do something for the better.”
