The official trailer for Christian Gudegast’s Den of Thieves was released today and just as 50 Cent promised, “this one you must see.” The action-packed thriller stars the rapper, O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Ice Cube’s son), and Pablo Schreiber.
The three are elite criminals who are part of a top-notch crew of bank robbers determined to hit the Federal Reserve in Los Angeles. Why? Well, apparently, over $100 million in cash is removed from circulation every day, at which point it is taken to the Federal Reserve to be destroyed.
The trailer also breaks down just how impossible robbing the Federal Reserve may be, since every millimeter of the facility is covered with cameras. It’s possible that this heist may be an homage of sorts to John Carpenter’s Escape From New York, since the iconic Snake Plissken character, played by Kurt Russell, was convicted of trying to rob the Federal Reserve.
This will be 50 Cent’s first movie role since appearing in the 2015 boxing flick Southpaw. Currently, 50 is ruling the small screen with his popular STARZ series Power and the BET variety show, 50 Central.
Den of Thieves hits the big screen on January 19th, 2018.
