Nas‘ little cousin is about to get real grown on us.
Like Denise Huxtable before her, Zoey Johnson (Yara Shahidi) is breaking away from her sitcom-family nest. The upcoming black-ish spinoff, Grow-ish, showcases Zoey during her freshman year of college. In the trailer, we see Dre (Anthony Anderson) crying his eyes out over the phone with his daughter.
The Freeform show will also star Trevor Jackson of Burning Sands, Francia Raisa of The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and Chris Parnell from Saturday Night Live. Luka Sabbat and sisters Chloe and Halle Bailey will also be recurring cast members in the city.
Originally titled college-ish, the series began as a backdoor pilot during black-ish‘s third season and was intended for ABC. Grown-ish will follow Zoey as she begins her freshman year at the fictional Southern California University.
