A gunman has reportedly opened fire at a church in Texas, leaving multiple victims, it has been reported.

The incident took place at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, a small community south east of San Antonio. Witnesses reported seeing a man walk into the church at around 11.30am CST.

The shooter is now believed to be dead.

Unconfirmed reports on social media claim that more than a dozen people have been injured during the shooting, though it is not clear yet how serious their injuries are. A two year old is said to be among the shooting victims.

Police have confirmed that there are “multiple victims”, but have not revealed any more details.

A reporter in San Antonio wrote on Twitter: “At least six helicopters called to transport victims.”

“Neighbors say they heard shooter may have reloaded multiple times, around 50 people usually at service.”

He added, “Police tell me shooter is dead and there is no more active threat.”
