Donda West, the mother of Kanye West, has been the inspiration behind several of Ye’s career highlights. For instance, a few of his albums, his single “Hey Mama”, and “Only One”, and his multidiscipline design and content company DONDA — The list goes on and on. However Donda passed away ten years ago today of heart disease while suffering “multiple post-operative factors”. A failed autopsy couldn’t determine the exact cause of her death following multiple surgeries the day before, including liposuction and breast reduction surgery by Jan Adams.

Adams denies any wrongdoing during in Donda’s passing. He told Inside Edition that Donda was given “20 Vicodin tabs in less than 20 hours” following her surgery, and blames her nephew, Stephan Scoggins, for her death. Adam recommended that she stayed in hospital’s care, but she wanted to be nursed by her nephew who was a certified nurse. However, Adam suggests that Scoggins’ absence is what caused Donda’s untimely death. “What’s Donda West’s problem? Her nurse wasn’t there,” Adams told Inside Edition. “Her nurse was gone to a baby shower rather than taking care of his aunt.” He said she died from cardiopulmonary failure and the amount of medication which led her to choke on her own vomit.

Despite her passing, Donda remains a major influence her son’s career.
