Bond. James Bond. For years we’ve seen actors like Sean Connery, Daniel Craig, and Pierce Brosnan play the British spy. There’s one person who thinks it’s time for a change, Idris Elba. Elba believes it’s time to switch it up and have a woman play the spy.

During the Sundance Film Festival showcasing his directorial debut for the feature film Yardie, Idris discussed the British Secret Service. He said, “Are we interested in having a Bond character other than a male?”

“It could be a woman, could be a black woman, could be a white woman, but I think that character everybody would like to see it have – do something different with it, why not?”

Twitter went into a frenzy agreeing with the star, and some still want Elba to play the role of James Bond. A few years back, there was speculation that Idris would be the new James Bond. The writer of the new Bond novel, Trigger Morris, claimed that Elba was “too street” for the role. Too street was code for “too black” in the eyes of many. Anthony Horowitz apologized for his statement, and said it had nothing to do with race.

The 25th installment of the Bond movies is set to release in 2019 with Daniel Craig as Bond. But do you think the world is ready for a female James Bond? Jamie Bond? Who would be perfect for the role?
