LeBron James loves crashing a good party. That’s exactly what he did on Paul Pierce‘s Day in Boston.

The Cavaliers ran the Celtics out of the Boston Garden with a 121- 99 beat down. For some strange reason, the Celtics assumed it would be a better idea to honor Pierce at the conclusion of the game rather than at halftime.

The Celtics’ decision to hold the ceremony until after game backfired in a big way. The game became more about the new-look Cavs than a celebration of Paul Pierce. When ABC’s broadcast flashed over to Pierce, viewers were greeted by a dejected Pierce.

Since the ceremony wasn’t at halftime, that gave social media enough time to drop some creative jokes.

The Celtics probably won’t make that same mistake the next time a jersey gets retired.
