Earlier this month, Migos rapper Quavo used his platform to urge the Atlanta Hawks front office to draft the Oklahoma star point guard Trae Young. On June 11, following Young’s workout with the Hawks, Quavo tweeted “Trae Young to @ATLHawks.”

It looks like his voice was heard because the 19-year-old Adidas signee will play for the Hawks this year. Atlanta used their third overall pick to draft Slovenia’s Luka Doncic, but worked out a trade that sent Doncic to Dallas in exchange for Trae Young. The Hawks also received a future first-round pick from Dallas.

Trae Young should immediately become the centerpiece of a struggling Atlanta Hawks team that won 24 games this past season. Young will be joined by Atlanta’s 19 overall pick Kevin Huerter from the University of Maryland.

Trae Young excited many basketball fans with his impressive season in Oklahoma average 27 points a game and 10 assists when he played over 40 minutes. Young has been heavily compared to NBA superstar Stephen Curry for his long-range dead eye shooting which could be the reason Quavo took to social media to start recruiting. “Ice Trae Young Welcome to Atlanta,” Quavo said on Twitter after the trade went through.

There weren’t too many surprises in the first round of the draft. Deandre Ayton was drafted first overall by the Phoenix Suns followed by Marvin Bagley III who was drafted by the Sacramento Kings. Missouri’s Michael Porter Jr. fell down in the draft due to a troubling back injury landing with the Denver Nuggets at number 14 overall.
