When the Grammy Awards return to Los Angeles for the 61st edition in 2019, the categories that recognize the year’s achievement in record, song, album and new artist will carry a total of eight nominees opposed to the traditional five.

“This creates more opportunities for a wider-range of recognition in these important categories and gives more flexibility to our voters when having to make the often challenging decisions about representing excellence and the best in music for the year,” said President/CEO of the Recording Academy, Neil Portnow. “We look forward to celebrating all of our nominees when they are announced later this year.”

The rest of the categories for the 2019 Grammys will remain at the 5 nominees. The 2019 show will be live in Staples Center after a brief relocation this past year to New York City’s Madison Square Garden.
