The extremely early hours of Wednesday (June 18) morning sparked the headline that would rock the sports world as everyone woke up. The San Antonio Spurs sent disgruntled star Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors for their star DeMar DeRozan. DeRozan had just resigned with the team, showing a sense of loyalty that he or other NBA players felt was not returned. With news of DeMar’s departure, Drake issued a message to both players, however, fans will be able to agree with the sentiment issued to the departing all-star guard.
Drake serves as the global ambassador for the Toronto Raptors and made sure he thanked DeRozan and making sure that he knew he was a “fixture in Toronto” basketball legacy.
“To my brother @demar_derozan I want to say 10 million thank you’s on behalf of YOUR city. You are a fixture in Toronto forever and you gave everything you had. Through your leadership we had the most exciting years in franchise history,” Drake penned. “I am grateful to have witnessed your combination of skill, persistence, and loyalty from the same seats every night. Thank you for being an incredible captain and an even better friend.”
Drake also welcomed Kawhi Leonard to the 6ix Side from the lone star state and reports as of today say that the former Spur is more open to joining the squad and competing in the Eastern Conference.
