Common has donated an extensive amount of money to Manhattan public school P.S. 111. He visited the middle school as the ambassador for the non-profit Adopt-A-Classroom that helps underpaid teachers to pay for school supplies. Common wrote a $10,000 check to the school and spoke to the students about his 2016 song lyrics to “Black America Again.”
As some children didn’t recognize the “Go!” rapper that doesn’t mean the lack of fame. “They were looking like, ‘Who is this dude? We don’t know him,’” Common said. “But I’m still just here to connect with children and connect with the people and our teachers. So, I felt that it was more fun. It is humbling, but it is fun to try and get them to pay attention.”
