NBC Sports Washington reports the All-Star point guard reached out to Howard via Instagram and that was all he needed to be snagged on the $5.3 million deal.

“Golden State called and I thought about them,” Howard said. “But once John sent me that message, I was like man. I couldn’t tell him at first, but I was like, ‘Man, I’m going to be a Wizard.’ That was my mindset.”

Howard acknowledged that the Warriors did have interest but felt the Wizards were a better spot for him this upcoming season. Dwight Howard was traded from the Charlotte Hornets to the Brooklyn Nets earlier in the summer. The Nets then orchestrated his buyout.

in the 2017-18 season, Howard averaged 16.6 points and 12.5 rebounds.
