“The Big Red Machine” is trading in his wrestling gear for a political role. Glenn Jacobs, best known as Kane – a long-serving WWE superstar and former world champion – has been elected mayor of the third-most populous county in Tennessee.

The 51-year-old unseated a Democrat to become Knox County’s 29th mayor, running as a libertarian and promising tax cut along with improvements to education and infrastructure. Prior to being elected Mayor, Jacobs won the Republican bid by only 23  votes.

At his watch party, Jacobs, a Republican, claimed his victory while reminding his constituents that when he first announced his bid for mayor, he was greeted with “pretty resounding laughter” from some politicians, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.

Jacobs is now the second major WWE star to be elected to public office. He follows in footsteps of Jesse Ventura, who served as mayor of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, from 1991-95 and then as governor of the state from 1999 to 2003.

Over his 25-year wrestling career,  Jacobs racked up 18 titles, including three-time world champion and 12-time world tag team champion.

Jacobs will be set to take office on Sept. 1st.
