When most people think about startups and technology, the last thing that likely comes to mind is a party. However, the city of Austin, which is well known for both technology and partying, has decided to combine the two in the ATX Startup Crawl, a gathering that is expected to be one of the tech industry’s most-anticipated events of 2018.

What is Startup Crawl? It’s startups. And a bar crawl. Obviously. Granted, there’s a whole lot more including product demonstrations, TED Talk-style presentations, morning coffee meetups, a startup career fair, educational panels, happy hours, workshops, and a Battle of the Tech Bands, which is exactly what it sounds like- the IT guys at your work playing Willie Nelson cover songs (it is Austin, after all).

The startup crawl, which coincides with Austin’s Startup Week, is not just a chance for small startups to get regional and national exposure (and hopefully get some VC), but also for job seekers to network with a large number of companies all at once. According to their website, the event organizers state that the ATX Startup Crawl 2018 is a celebration of technology and entrepreneurship in Austin, calling it a fantastic opportunity to get visibility in the Austin startup community, launch your product, practice your pitch, and recruit talent.

Did we mention that there will be beer, too? Companies can either have a stop at their office or will be assigned a stop along the route where they will be paired with local and national breweries or distilleries.

In 2017, more than 6,000 people registered for the pub crawl- many of them job-seekers who came armed with resumes and cover letters. Because who says you can’t have happy hour before you’ve even gotten the job?

The ATX Startup Crawl takes place October 4 in Austin.
