Nicki Minaj took to Instagram on Monday (Aug. 6) to clarify how her and Tekashi 6ix9ine’s joint effort “FEFE” came about. She sent a voice note message to the Brooklyn rapper.

Minaj revealed that she sent the first half of verse within five minutes after hearing the Murda Beatz’s production. “6ix9ine sent me this song & we got on the phone to discuss. 5 mins after the call I sent him this voice note. True story. He sent me a voice note back making fun of my voice. I was literally in bed half sleep! Smh,” she wrote.

The “Chun-Li” also revealed that she was inspired by the time she recorded “Sleep Party” with Gucci Mane in 2009. “I was inspired tho cuz it reminded me of a song I did wit GUCCI years ago. Gucci made me write that verse in 15 [minutes because] he said he only had money for 2 hours of studio time & we both had to write and record,” Minaj recalled.

The Queens native surprisingly released her album Queen today after changing the date twice. It seems to be performing well according to early social media views. Don’t be surprised if “Barbie Dreams” is charting with “FEFE.”

6ix9ine will likewise be joining Nicki and Future on their co-featuring NICKIHNDRXX Tour this fall as one of three supporting acts on the North American leg, which commences in Baltimore one month from now (Sept. 21).
