The “dad shoe” is probably the biggest trend in the sneaker world right now, even attracting high fashion brands like Calvin Klein and Fendi (by way of FILA). However, the style has actually been around longer than most might believe, going as far back as 1998 with the classic ASICS GEL-Kayano 5 which is getting a much-needed resurgence next week.
Getting its name from the silhouette’s designer Toshikazu Kayano, the shoe is a tried-and-true runner that’s build for that specifically. The GEL-Kayano 5 is a fan-favorite mainly for its lightweight construction, but the OG colorway also makes it a standout for the way the hues are utilized across the intricately-designed mesh upper. The blue & yellow play off eachother quite well on the branding, tongue, heel and air bubble units on the sole, and the minor grey accents compliment the look even further. Thankfully these are back and looking better than ever, and it won’t be long before we see them on shelves as well.
