Every once and while there will be a rare sighting of a Black Republican who serves in Congress. Even rarer, are Black Republicans who live in Utah. One Black Republican, Former Rep. Ludmya “Mia” Love, joins the chorus of those who have had enough of the 45th President’s shenanigans.

Love, who had the distinction of being the only Black Republican woman in Congress, will lose her seat, as she was defeated by her Democratic opponent in Utah’s 4th Congressional district in suburban Salt Lake City. The race was close and wasn’t officially decided until two weeks later after the mid-term elections.

Trump, in a tweet, of course, mentioned that Love did not want her campaign to be connected with him. On social media, he noted: “Mia Love gave me no love and she lost,” Trump said. “Too bad. Sorry about that, Mia.”

In her concession speech, Love responded to Trump. She observed, “The president’s behavior towards me made me wonder: What does he have to gain by saying such a thing about a fellow Republican? This gave me a clear vision of his world as it is: no real relationships, just convenient transactions.”

As Love prepares to leave D.C, she also criticized her own party. She contended, “I’ve seen the cost of conservatives for not truly taking people into their hearts. Democrats saw newly elected black members and women to Congress in this election. This is a matter of fact that Republicans lost in this regard.”
