In January, The Upside, a comedy-drama film directed by Neil Burger and written by Jon Hartmere, will be released in theaters next month. Hart stars as a paroled convict who becomes responsible for taking care of a quadriplegic billionaire. Throughout their journey, the unlikely duo eventually becomes friends. The film is a remake of the French 2011 film The Intouchables which was itself inspired by the life of Philippe Pozzo di Borgo. The film also stars Nicole Kidman, Julianna Margulies, and Aja Naomi King.

While the film was shot in 2017, it was put on hold due to its connection with Harvey Weinstein and his film company who was embroiled in various sexual assault charges. In August 2018, STX Entertainment announced it would collaborate with the renamed studio, Lantern Entertainment to distribute the film.

The film made its debut at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival. It is scheduled to be released on January 11, 2019, by STX Entertainment and Lantern Entertainment.

Not only has Kevin Hart released successful films but he’s also landing deals to produce his own content. To cap off another big year for Hart, it was just announced that Hart will host the 2019 Academy Awards.
