It’s been a rocky couple of weeks for former Destiny Child’s singer Michelle Williams. She just ended her engagement to Chad Johnson. And now, it’s being reported that she has been advised to leave the Broadway musical that she was staring in under the doctor’s orders.
As reported by Essence, Michelle Williams has been forced to step down from the Broadway production Once On This Island. She was set to play the role of goddess Erzulie in the Tony Award-winning musical through January 6, but doctors ordered her to take a leave of absence.
The show offered an official statement that said, “Effective immediately, Michelle T. Williams has been advised by her doctors to take a leave of absence from performing.”
Although it is unclear why her doctors advised her to leave the Broadway production prematurely, Michelle Williams has been an open book about her struggles with mental health. She addressed it head on Instagram.
“For years I have dedicated myself to increasing awareness of mental health and empowering people to recognize when it’s time to seek help, support and guidance from those that love and care for your well being. I recently listened to the same advice I have given to thousands around the world and sought help from a great team of healthcare professionals. Today I proudly, happily and healthily stand here as someone who will continue to always lead by example as I tirelessly advocate for the betterment of those in need, if you change your mind, you can change your life.”
