Although the Obamas no longer occupy the White House, they keep winning. In honor of the former President Barack Obama, signs were posted renaming a portion of the 134 Freeway in Southern California in his honor. The President Barack H. Obama Highway extends from Route 2 in Glendale through Eagle Rock and to Pasadena by Interstate 210.
Obama spent some time California early in his life. He lived in Pasadena while attending Occidental College in Eagle Rock from 1979 to 1981.
According to the Huffington Post, State Sen. Anthony J. Portantino first introduced the designation for the highway to be named in honor of Obama in 2017. Also, a portion of Rodeo Road, which is located in a mostly African-American community, is named after him. The resolution read, “In recognition of President Barack Hussein Obama’s more than two decades of dedicated public service to the citizens of the United States and the State of California, it is fitting to designate a portion of State Route 134 in his honor.”
Not only has Obama had a freeway named after him but he took some time to spread some holiday cheer and pass out toys at Washington Children’s National Health System. He observed, “I got a chance to talk to some of the wonderful kids and their families and at a time that obviously is tough for folks. As a dad of two girls, I can only imagine in that situation to have nurses, staff, and doctors and people who are caring for them, and looking after them, and listening to them, and just there for them and holding their hand, that’s the most important thing there is.”
