Afropop: The Ultimate Cultural Exchange, the award-winning documentary series on public television that centers on the Black experience across the globe, will return for its 11th season.

Orange Is the New Black actress Danielle Brooks will host the first episode of the upcoming season. Miriam Makeba, the African music icon, will be featured with Mama Africa: Miriam Makeba!  Under Mika Kaurismäki’s direction, the film tells the story of Makeba’s meteoric rise as a global superstar and as a powerful voice of the South African anti-apartheid movement.

AfroPoP is a product of Black Public media and is a collaboration brought to your screen by American Public Television. The new series, AfroPoP: The Ultimate Cultural Exchange, will depicts contemporary stories of the black experience, culture, and art from across the globe. In the series, Brooks will serve as the guide across the documentaries and short stories that touch on subjects of social justice, music, LGBTQ identity and beyond.

The episode will premiere on WORLD Channel on January 21 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day).
