With Black History Month in full swing for the entire duration of February, we’re expecting to see a handful of brands releasing collections inspired by the many great contributions of African American culture throughout history. After getting a preview of Nike’s 2019 “BHM” set last month, it was only a matter of time before adidas came through with a few special colorways itself.
The footwear options chosen are good selections to go with, which include the adidas Harden Vol. 3, adidas Dame 5 and fan-favorite adidas UltraBOOST. All three take on a Harlem Renaissance vibe, combining a mix of black, purple and orange together to reflect the vibrant jazz scene that brought us exceptional talents like Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong and Dizzy Gillespie.
It’s through art pieces like “Saturday Night” by Archibald J. Motley Jr. (1935) that truly captures the colorways and overall vibe incorporated into the adidas 2019 Black History Month collection.
With Harden and Lillard both expected to lace up in the NBA 2019 All-Star game, we may see these make a debut on the court in no time. The fact that both are leading Black athletes on their respective squads is just an added bonus that gives the theme even more validity.
