Idris Elba is a jack of many trades. His upcoming project with Netflix, Turn Up Charlie will give him the chance to flex both his DJ and acting chops.
The comedy film portrays Elba as a nanny for his famous best friend’s daughter who is trying to revive his DJ career. The British actor joins the cast with Piper Perabo, Frankie Hervey, JJ Feild, Angela Griffin, and more.

Idris Elba is an accomplished DJ in real life tho. The multi-hyphenate has a set at Coachella festival and he discussed the notable spot recently at the Golden Globes red carpet. “I’ve been catching some heat,” he told Entertainment Tonight last month. “‘Oh, he’s a DJ now?’ But I’ve been a DJ since I was 14, but Coachella is, like, a lifetime dream for any DJ. I’m so excited! I can’t wait.”
His passion for music shouldn’t come as a surprise because his family is musically inclined. “My dad was a real big music collector and record head, and my uncle was a DJ,” he told Complex. “My cousin was a DJ on pirate radio… It’s something I’ve been doing as long as I’ve been an actor. I knew I wanted to be an actor at 14, and I was DJing at 13. ”
