“The Kennedy Center is the nation’s cultural center, so … it’s only fitting that this would be the first city for which the brand would expand outside of the awards show,” said Simone Eccleston, Kennedy Center Director of Hip-Hop Culture.

The Black Girls Rock! festival featured DJ sets from Beverly Bond and legendary rapper MC Lyte. The weekend included a discussion about Bond’s book, Black Girls Rock!: Owning Our Magic. Rocking Out Truth, an opening dance party, and a concert featuring Jazmine Sullivan, Miamouna Youssef, surprise guests and was hosted by Angie Ange of the Angie Ange in the Morning show.
