Police comedies and drams are often dominated by men on the small screen and on the big screen. But now two superstar women are bucking the trend and breaking the glass ceiling in a new police series.

Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba both star in the new cop series L.A.’s Finest, which made its debut on Monday (May 13th). A spinoff of the Bad Boys film series, “L.A.’s Finest” sees Union reprising her role as Syd Burnett from 2003’s Bad Boys IIL.A.’s Finest will be the first original programming on the Spectrum platform. Charter Communications has given a 13-episode series order to for the drama pilot.

According to the show’s description: L.A.’s Finest follows “Burnett, who last was seen in Miami taking down a drug cartel. She now has left her complicated past behind to become an LAPD detective. Paired with a new partner, Nancy McKenna, a working mom with an equally complex past, Burnett is pushed to examine whether her unapologetic lifestyle might be masking a greater personal secret. These two women don’t agree on much, but they find common ground when it comes to taking on the most dangerous criminals in Los Angeles.”

“Charter has a strong passion for the project, and we could not be more excited,” ” said Jeff Frost, President of Sony Pictures TV. “Immediately we knew this innovative new platform was absolutely the right home for L.A.’s Finest.”

According to Deadline, L.A.’s Finest was one of the highest-profile and most expensive pilots this season, with its budget said to be in excess of $12 million

Both Union and Alba are executive producers on the series alongside Brandon Margolis, Brandon Sonnier, Pam Veasey, Doug Belgrad, Jonathan Littman, KristieAnne Reed, Jeff Gaspin, Jeff Morrone and pilot director Anton Cropper.
