Regina Hall Becomes First Black Woman to Win New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress

Actress Regina Hall made history by becoming the first black woman to receive a New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC) award for Best Actress.

The ceremony took place at New York City’s TAO Downtown restaurant on Monday night (Jan. 7). Hall won the prestigious accolade for her role in Supporting The Girls.

Sharing her historic feat on Instagram, Hall wrote, “So honored to be the first black woman to receive the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress,” she wrote.

Supporting the Girls is a 2018 comedy film written and directed by Andrew Bujalski. For her work, Hall was nominated for the Independent Spirit Awards and Gotham Independent Film Awards.

Hall is well known for her many acting credits that include The Best Man (1999) and its sequel The Best Man Holiday (2013), Love & Basketball (2000), Malibu’s Most Wanted (2003), Think Like a Man (2012) and its sequel Think Like a Man Too (2014), About Last Night (2014), Vacation (2015) Girls Trip (2017), and The Hate U Give (2018).

Hall will star alongside Issa Rae in the remake of the classic role-reversal film Big entitled Little which is due to hit theaters on April 12, 2019.
