At this year’s Sundance Film Festival, a documentary detailing the accounts of two boys who accused Michael Jackson of sexual abuse will be added to the list of films that will be presented.
Leaving Neverland claims it will tell the stories of two boys who began long-running relationships with Jackson at the height of his stardom. According to the producer/director Dan Reed, the two boys began relationships with the “King of Pop” when they were 7 and 10 years old. Now in their 30s, they will tell their story of how they were sexually abused by Jackson and how their lives have been affected as a result.
In response to the news of the film’s release, the estate of Michael Jackson condemns the documentary. Speaking with TMZ, representatives from the estate said the film was “another lurid production in an outrageous and pathetic attempt to exploit and cash in on Michael Jackson … just another rehash of dated and discredited allegations. It’s baffling why any credible film-maker would involve himself with this project.”
Totaling four hours, it will premiere at the Sundance film festival in Utah on January 25th.
