In a heroic effort to stop President Donald Trump’s declaration of a national emergency, one that possibly allows him to go around Congress to fund his wall along the US-Mexico border, 16 states have filed a lawsuit claiming that the action ignores The Constitution.

Led by California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, the other states that have filed the lawsuit are Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, and Virginia.
Becerra told CNN‘s Kate Bolduan on Monday, “We’re going to try to halt the President from violating the Constitution, the separation of powers, from stealing money from Americans and states that has been allocated by Congress, lawfully.”

Becerra and his collective are not the only bodies looking to sue the Commander In Chief over this issue. The Trump administration is further challenged with lawsuits by the Center for Biological Diversity, Border Network for Human Rights, and the American Civil Liberties Union. Last week, even singer/ politician Beto O’Rourke and the Border Network for Human Rights marched in las week to create awareness about their lawsuit.
What exactly is it that the president is actually doing? He has invoked The National Emergencies Act to get his way.

This act allows him to declare a national emergency and dispense monies from federal lines by declaring that it is absolutely necessary. It is a weapon that Trump in his capacity as the nation’s number one authority can use to exert his authority. In this case, he would be able to tap $2.5 billion of the military narcotics and $3.6 billion from the military construction funding.
