Melanin mixed with the summer season is one of the most perfect pairings, and menswear brand consultancy Art Comes First is highlighting that with a SS19 collection entitled “SURF AFRIKA” that aims to bring our Black brothers and sisters out to the beach in droves.
From the red, green and black backdrops seen throughout the lookbook to the models themselves all showing us just how striking dark skin looks in front of a camera lens, this entire editorial is one of the best odes to Africa that menswear has seen in a while. The brand’s designers, Sam Lambert and Shaka Maidoh, borrowed from all sides of the style spectrum, including business casual on a range of oversized overcoats and top hats to beachwear in the form of mesh tops and drawstring shorts, all while finding a way to mix high and low with varsity jackets and logo tees blending perfectly together with chinos, blazers and u-neck vests. Selvedge denim offerings, knit sweaters and a range of accessories are just a few more of the standouts, but honestly the collection as a whole is just fire overall.
