Since Joe Budden’s departure from Complex NewsEverday Struggle, he’s put his time into his Joe Budden Podcast with Rory and Mal, and has, of course, kept fans entertained with his infamous Twitter dialogue.

A few days ago, Budden took to social media to announce a four city tour coming in June for the Joe Budden Podcast, which will hit Philadelphia, Washington DC, New York City and Boston over the course of four days.

In addition to the advancement of his well established podcast, Diddy recently announced that Joe Budden will be joining the Revolt TV family with a new show called State of the Culture. In a short one-minute clip shared by Diddy via Twitter and Instagram, the bad boy exclaims that the “ink is dry” regarding Budden’s new deal with the Revolt Network.

In the video, viewers can hear Budden explain why he decided to do the show.

“I’m excited about what we’re about to do. I want to help people to understand our culture. You gotta address the state of things and who guards the culture — who preserves the culture. Those of us who are apart of it, those of us who love it, or because I love it we’re going to do State of the Culture.”

In a statement to Billboard, Diddy said, “Joe has an authentic approach and he’s never afraid to speak the truth. His many talents deserve a platform that pushes the culture forward and we are excited to produce next-level content with him.”

State of the Culture is set to premiere this summer. Are you excited to hear from an unfiltered Joe on his very own show?

You can purchase tickets to see Joey’s podcast tour here.

Spike Lee has another summer premiere up his sleeve with the recent announcement of BlacKkKLANSMAN, his “newest joint” that premiered this past weekend at the Cannes Film Festival.

Based on a memoir by Ron Stallworth, the BlacKkKLANSMAN story is based on a 1970s narrative of an African American cop who infiltrated the Ku Klux Klan, eventually becoming the head of a local Ku Klux Klan chapter in Colorado. Spike Lee has recruited Denzel Washington’s son, John David Washington, to play the starring role as Stallworth.

Produced by Get Out producers Jason Blum and Jordan Peele, BlacKkKLANSMAN is set to be released nationally on August 10, the one-year anniversary of the Charlottesville neo-nazi/Ku Klux Klan rally in 2017.

In regards to his newest project, Spike Lee stated this:

“This is not a relic of the past — this is happening today.”

As previously reported, Spotify has chosen to remove R. Kelly from their official playlists and influential curated packages, such as Rap Caviar, New Music Friday, and Discover Weekly. Spotify has since decided to also remove XXXTentacion,  being that he has also been considered to have violated Spotify’s new public hate content and hateful conduct policy.

XXXTentacion has been accused of many violations, that of which include facing charges in Florida for aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, domestic battery by strangulation, witness tampering and witness harassment of his ex-girlfriend that he was originally accused of assaulting, and false imprisonment. According to the New York Times, XXXTentacion’s music was featured on Spotify’s Rap Caviar playlist as recent as Wednesday (May 9),  but has since been removed.

XXXTentacion’s spokeswoman, Aishah White, stated this:

“I don’t have a comment, just a question. Will Spotify remove all the artists listed below from playlists?” — in which she included the names of Michael Jackson, Nelly, 6ix9ine, Miguel, Fabolous, Dr. Dre, James Brown, and more — all of which have been accused of domestic violence, sexual misconduct and/or sexual abuse.

Here’s how a spokesperson for Spotify responded:

“As you can imagine this is a complicated process with room for debate and disagreement, so we can’t get into an artist-by-artist discussion. In general we work with our partners and try to make decisions on a case-by-case basis.”

The new public hate content and hateful conduct policy is still fairly new to Spotify. Stay tuned for updates on R. Kelly, XXXTentacion and other artists Spotify may target under their new policy.

Last week, Will Smith took to Instagram to introduce his wife,  Jada Pinkett-Smith, to his Instagram family by announcing her initiation to the social media site. As Jada made herself at home via Instagram, she announced the debut of Red Table Talk, a project documenting the journey towards healing and a need for more authenticity and by sharing life without filters and lots of transparency featuring three generations of women — Jada’s mother, Adrienne Banfield Norris, and Will and Jada’s daughter, Willow Camille Smith.

On May 7, the first episode of Red Table Talk premiered on Facebook Watch. Each episode revolves around a “red hot topic” and the first episode’s topic centered around “motherhood and everything that comes with it.”

In a very transparent debut,  Jada sat down with her first guest appearance which happened to be Will Smith’s first wife, Sheree Zampino. In a very intimate one-on-one that was recorded and replayed in front of Adrienne and Willow, Sheree and Jada shared heartfelt tears, regrets,  and words that had never been spoken between the two of them in regards to their innermost thoughts and feelings about their co-parenting situation.

Jada Pinkett-Smith admitted to not understanding marriage or divorce and that if she had she would have approached the blended family situation a lot differently in the beginning. Sheree even admitted to being heartbroken when her son confessed to loving Jada Pinkett-Smith after meeting her for the first time.

Jada Pinkett-Smith stated:

“I would say she [Sheree] has really been one of the main people in life that has forced me to expand beyond anything that I imagined and I’m so grateful!”

The trio went on to discuss Jada and her mom’s relationship, as well as inquiring about Willow Smith’s thoughts on being a mother in addition to her own upbringing and first hand experience as apart of a blended family.

You can watch the Red Table Talk every Monday on Facebook Watch and tune in to Jada’s Facebook Live every Wednesday to engage in the process of growth from the particular week’s previous episode.

Kevin Gates was released from the East Moline Correctional Center in Illinois back in January after serving nine months for a firearm felony warrant. It was previously reported that since Kevin’s release he has been banned from traveling due to his parole officer denying him permission to leave Chicago despite complying with the allotted terms of his probation.

Kevin Gates was set to perform this weekend at the JMBLYA Festival in Dallas, Houston, and Austin, TX. He was also scheduled to perform at next weekend’s Rolling Loud Festival in Miami. He has since officially cancelled his JMBLYA performance in which TI will be taking his place.

Dreka Gates, Kevin’s wife, has since took to social media on Kevin’s behalf to apologize and explain to fans what exactly is going on with Kevin’s legal case. Dreka stated the Illinois Department of Corrections has prevented Kevin from leaving the state of Illinois even denying him permission to travel to California where he and his family live. She explained that they are doing everything in their power to work this out so that Kevin can get back to traveling and touring. She went on to express her gratitude to the fans for their love, support, and understanding also adding that Kevin is, in fact, still in the studio making music to be released soon despite the current circumstances.

The specifics of Kevin Gates’ particular probation regulations have yet to be revealed but we hope for the best in getting this matter resolved whereas many fans are highly anticipating his return to the music scene.

There have been many female DJs that have come before DJ Poizon Ivy, and there are so many more female DJs that will come after her yet will never quite attain the particular level of success DJ Poizon Ivy has reached throughout the duration of her ongoing career.

When it comes to her career stats, DJ Poizon Ivy is the second female DJ in NBA league history, the first female team DJ in Dallas Mavericks’ franchise history, and last but not least, the first ever female DJ to DJ at an NBA All Star Game.

Having opened up for the likes of Nas, J. Cole, and Wiz Khalifa, currently DJing for a top five radio market radio station, as well as a highly requested DJ for high profile charitable events — DJ Poizon Ivy is superwoman in her own right and we sat down with her in an attempt to pinpoint the root of her superhuman abilities and how we can hone our very own. We discussed her upbringing from Kenya to Dallas, how she balances motherhood and an unorthodox DJing career, the advice she would give to other women who have aspirations to be successful female DJs, as well as originally being denied a job with the Milwaukee Bucks before being hired as the Dallas Mavericks Official Team DJ.

Being from Kenya, do you have any culture shock stories from when you moved to Dallas or your earliest memories of Kenya?

I moved to Dallas when I was nine. I love and miss Kenya all the time though. When I’m there I never want to leave. We’re a British Colony so I had a bit of an accent when we first moved. Again, I was nine years old and nine year old kids are very brutally honest. But as an adult with a child now, I understand now that a lot of it is just curiosity more than anything. So of course, they teased me about my accent. They used to ask me if I got here on a boat or if I used to live in a hut. The questions were endless but my mom taught me how to have a sense of humor and handle such things with a sense of humor which carried on into my life as an adult.

Why did you choose to attend Marquette University?

I applied to 18 colleges and universities including every Ivy League one. It’s a fantastic school and they were just very accommodating in terms of the finances. I had full rides elsewhere. I had a full ride to Boston University and a couple other universities. But when you’re going to college you’re going to move away from home for at least four years, and I felt the most at home in Milwaukee. Of course, I don’t think it’s by coincidence that I went to a school with a really good basketball program. I worked around the sport a lot. I went to school with a lot of the guys that are in the league now — Jae Crowder, Jimmy Butler, Dwight Buycks. We all legitimately went to school together and even had class together at that. So maybe it was some kind of foreshadowing.

After starting your career in Milwaukee and gaining all your newfound respect there — what was your thought process in moving back to Dallas?

I spent a good six years in Milwaukee and it’s a great city that’s definitely booming right now. But I felt like I had exhausted all my opportunities there. I got on commercial radio. I did a lot of shows and I was well known in that city. But then I had a child. I needed support from my family and not having any family members anywhere around Milwaukee was very hard. So it was a combination of wanting additional challenges and wanting a bigger playing field and wanting to be close to my mom.

Any particular habits that you credit your success to?

Obsession to a certain extent. I’m always thinking to the point where like right now I’ve had a really really long year and I’m starting to feel the effects of that emotionally, physically, and spiritually. But I just like to read up on people that I admire. With that being said, I have a couple of people that you really wouldn’t even expect for me to admire.

But I’m a Gemini so you’re going to find this duality in a lot of my thought process. As much as I think that it’s great to read up on people that you admire I also feel like it’s not because you’re not that person and I need to just figure out what my story is.

But I’m definitely a YouTuber. I watch a Pharrell interview everyday. I watch a Beyonce interview everyday, and Grace Jones.

There are a lot of female DJs on the rise or already established and social media kind of makes it inevitable to compare yourself to others. What helps you stay in your lane and focus on you without comparisons?

Here’s the thing — with social media it’s all basically constructable. You can buy the likes. You can buy the followers. You can pay for the photographer. You can pay for editing but none of that amounts to what you really have going on in real life. So I worry about my real life. I don’t take the time to get on social media and compare my behind the scenes to somebody else’s highlight reel. Don’t do it. It’s unhealthy. We’re creating a generation of  “effed up” people because of this mentality that you’re keeping up with something that’s not even real. Imagine that.

I don’t and I won’t do that to myself. But one things for sure though. I work hard and I think that it shows. That’s what I encourage everyone to do. Just work hard and it will show. It won’t show to everybody but it only matters to me. If I can feed my daughter and pay my bills I’m good.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to be in your shoes or do exactly what you do?

Practice obviously — and really do it because you love it. Don’t do it because of what you think that it is or could be. Just do it. Devise a plan. Talk to God about it. You all come to some type of agreement. Keep going. Go back to God. Talk to him about it . Keep going. Repeat.

In that regard, success is about resilience but for some people they’ve given up after one or two or three failures. Can you provide an example of a failure that you had that actually turned into a testimony?

I actually auditioned to be the DJ for the Milwaukee Bucks and got turned down. And no loss love because I have a lot of great friends in that organization, but that didn’t work out.

That very day, I remember specifically saying “I’m ready to quit”. I haven’t said that much in my career but I said it that day. But something was telling me “Just as you’re getting your first taste of what it could be, now you’re ready to give up?” And because I didn’t give up I’m now the second female DJ in NBA history.

But between the gaps it was hard because the job was actually given to a friend of mine, my mentor who I love to death. It hurt. But I’m so humbled because it was that same situation that set me up for this job with the Mavericks. I won’t go into specifics but trust me, just when you feel like you’re ready to quit or give up just know it’s darkest before dawn. So hold on!

Have you experienced any prejudice or jealousy from male DJ counterparts?

All the time. I think that’s just life. There’s some things about life that I’ve honestly gotten to the point where I realize the higher up you get not everybody is going to like you and not everybody is going to be happy for you. That’s also why I keep a very small circle because I can’t afford to expose myself to that energy. But look at how many people I’m around every other day. How can I even focus my attention on that? You just block the energy by giving off good energy. So if it’s good energy all around you the bad can’t get to you. So I’m not worried about that at all. It’s life. It keeps me going. It sparks my fuel. I need it.

It takes energy to hate and if you want to give me that energy I welcome it.

Was there a tryout to become the official team DJ for the Mavericks franchise or what exactly was the hiring process like?

You really have to prove you know what to do in certain situations. So a lot of what I do has to do with knowledge of music. If our team is winning or if our team is losing I have to know how to rise the energy, pick it up or pull it down. It’s half science half art. So yes there was a call. In the interview when they asked me why do you deserve this position — I literally just showed them a picture of me working as a 16 year old Dallas Mavericks ball girl with a mop in my hand. So I kind of feel like it was almost like how can you say no. It’s a little bit of destiny in there too. There were some tears involved and everything in between.

You do have a little daughter. Is there any particular mantra, motto, or or moral standard that you raise your little one by?

I remind her every morning before she goes to school that she’s smart, she’s kind and that she’s beautiful on the inside and outside. Those are the only things I feel like she needs to know. I can ask her other questions like “Who is your best friend?” She knows that’s mommy. “Who loves you?” She knows her whole family does. “Who loves you the most?” — God. I feel like if anything were to ever happen to me, in her darkest toughest moments she could repeat all of those four things to herself and she’ll be good.

Is there anything that happened in your childhood or with your parents that made you want to parent the particular way that you do parent?

My mother literally on several occasions has given her last for me. She’s always told me that she would lay her life on the line for me and in various ways has proven that. I’ve been through a lot especially in these last couple of years, and every single time the only person that I can look back and remember never turned her back on me (even if I’ve turned my back on her) was my mom. I feel like because of how well she has done that I have to take that times two and do it for my daughter.

Also, I live a bit of an unorthodox life so my daughter is with me a lot living it with me. She has to share her mommy with everybody. So for that I feel like she deserves it all.

With such an unorthodox life, have you figured out balancing a relationship and this career?

I’m not going to lie. I’m at a point where things are falling into place. I just told my friend today, “I got it all but for some reason I’m just not there yet”. She was like, “I know what’s missing”. I said, ”What’s missing?” She says, “Some love”.

I purposely avoid that because it eventually becomes more of a headache than it is helpful. I would love to have a boyfriend. But at this point, I need a husband. I’m speaking that into existence. I am ready to settle down. I’m not old but I’m also not getting any younger. I’m building my life and I want to be able to build it with somebody. I want to share the good, the bad, and the ugly. But again, you can’t make it hard for me. Life everyday is already hard in itself. You can’t be asking too many questions. I’m around a lot of very attractive very wealthy people. It’s my job. Half of them are my friends. But really just help make my life easier please. So hopefully here shortly.

What did you think you were going to be before DJing was actually an attainable goal and a sustainable career? What was your ideal career?

I wanted to be the first female commissioner of the NBA. I actually ran into Adam Silver last year at All Star. I told him about me and how that was once my goal and he was like, ”Well why can’t you”?

I told him how old I was and he goes, “You have three lifetimes left to still chase that goal”. He kind of got my wheels turning. But I always wanted to be some kind of executive. I like making decisions. Before that, I wanted to be an ER doctor and a firefighter. Evidently I like jobs that involve a lot of risks too.

Any particular celebrity that you’ve met and after meeting them you gained this newfound respect for them?

I met Kareem Abdul-Jabbar like three weeks ago. He is so intelligent. His level of intelligence coincides with how Coach Ro [Rolando Blackman] explained how Kareem was always reading a book. If he wasn’t hooping he was reading a book. I always feel like working in the entertainment and sports industry — intelligence and your skill in each particular area are sometimes viewed as mutually exclusive when they’re not.

The Dallas Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban, is an amazing person. In addition to being a fantastic owner, you could literally call him and talk to him now. He’s just as regular as regular can be but in that same regard he’s really not regular at all.

There are a lot of people. The person who really taught me about being super real is a great friend of mine who I worked with, Skylar Diggins-Smith. She plays a lot of amazing people and a lot of amazing teams but before she hits the floor before every single game she will shake every hand on the baseline, in addition to getting everything else done that she needs to get done. I mean just a people’s person. And it’s honestly not for show. Because I’ve been with her a lot of different places. She’s taught me a lot about just making sure you make that meaningful connection. You only have about a few seconds with certain people sometimes but you have to make it as memorable as you can. So shoutout to Sky!

Another person that I feel like is of super legendary status — big shoutout to Wizkid because doing what he’s doing for the culture is amazing. I feel like rockstars are not made their born. That’s something I truly believe. I don’t think you can work your way up like that. I think you’re born to be a rockstar and that dude is a rockstar. I just can’t wait to see where this goes for him. He’s a pioneer. That’s a living legend.

First female DJ for the Mavericks franchise, first female DJ to DJ the NBA All Star Game, and second female DJ in NBA history — how do you feel about these accolades and how are you continuing to push the envelope?

I don’t think about it. These are accolades but I just try to be better every day, try to set more “firsts” and keep feeling like I’m working. I can’t ever get to a place where I’m complacent. I’m very aware of these accolades but complacency is the beginning of a lot of bad things. I get on my knees every night and thank God.

It’s not even a humility thing but if you look at some of the greats like Kobe [Bryant], you’re never going to hear him stand up boasting and bragging. I’m going to let my work show for it. I don’t think I’m where I can stand back and relax. My house is still being built but it’s all on a good foundation.

DJ Megan Ryte is the midday voice for New York’s radio powerhouse, HOT 97, while simultaneously providing the tunes for that same time slot as a DJ. From touring with the likes of K. Michelle, The Game, and Justine Skye to even being a television personality for WNYW-FOX 5 and KRIV-FOX 26, it’s quite obvious that Ryte masters any lane she touches and has recently added some prominent credentials to her already impressive resume.

Ryte took to Instagram to announce her recent signing to Interscope Records with a compilation album already in the works. Ryte’s HOT 97 counterpart and legendary DJ, DJ Enuff, will serve as the executive producer of the album.

Following the IG announcement, Ryte released her debut single “On & On” featuring Tory Lanez and Hood Celebrityy. The upbeat track is the perfect song to jumpstart the summer — with island vibes and mellow flow that adds plenty of sex appeal.

Adding icing to the already layered cake of recent accomplishments, DJ Megan Ryte will officially be hitting the HOT 97 Summer Jam main stage alongside Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, Remy Ma, and some very special surprise guests to accompany her on stage.

Congratulations are definitely in order as Megan’s moves prove why you’ve always have to #RespectTheDJ!

After a short hiatus from the music scene, Drake returned to music and to the charts with “God’s Plan” back in January. With 12 weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts, Drake beat his own record making “God’s Plan” his longest leading No. 1 record, with “One Dance” coming in at a close second.

Now, it’s been a little over a week since the release of his latest female empowerment single Nice For What,” which has officially dethroned “God’s Plan” and taken the No. 1 spot. Two No. 1 chart leading singles later, Drake takes to Instagram to hint at the release of his next album.

In a picture with his back facing the camera, Drake wears a satin black jacket with ‘Scorpion’ printed across the top. The words ‘June Twenty Eighteen’ are also displayed on the jacket, as well as apart of the picture’s caption. Furthermore, if listeners can recall the last line on Drake’s ‘Do Not Disturb’ from the More Life album — he clearly states he’ll be back in 2018 to give us a summary of the lifestyle he’s been living after taking a small break.

With much anticipation to hear Drake’s new album, we are just as excited to proclaim Summer 2018 as “Drizzy season”.

Last week word had it that Nicki Minaj had plans to release a new project on the same release date planned for Cardi B’s debut album, Invasion of Privacy. Although no Minaj project did come out, she’s now said two new songs will hit this week.

Minaj announced that fans can look forward to two new projects titled “Chun Li” and “Barbie Tingz”. As apart of her announcement, Nicki also revealed the artwork for both projects.

For the past couple of days, Nicki has been tweeting numbers in which fans believed was a countdown for the release of her new music. Furthermore, Young Thug took to his Instagram story to ensure fans knew that the ‘3’ he tweeted was in regard to the same ‘3’ Nicki Minaj had just tweeted about hours before. Young Thug then went on to make Nicki Minaj’s ‘Chun Li’ cover art his profile picture on Instagram which strongly hints that a Young Thug feature could be included in the upcoming releases.

After such a hiatus from social media and the rap game in general, it’s very exciting to see all that Nicki has been working on. Are you ready?

To some, it was Instagram popularity that turned into a viral video, but for Saweetie it was hard work and dedication toward a dream she’s had since she was 14 years old. In October 2017, Saweetie released the music video for her “ICY GRL” anthem that was initially just a video of her freestyling on top of Khia’s popular “My Neck, My Back” classic. Her followers loved it so much they demanded she shoot an official music video for the freestyle.

Three weeks and three million views later, Saweetie was on the industry’s radar as a dope female MC to watch. She kept the momentum going with consistent song and video releases up until recently being signed to Warner Bros in February.

Saweetie’s impact presented her the opportunity to perform at this weekend’s SXSW festival in Austin on the Pandora stage, and at the legendary Fader Fort, in which iconic artists like Kanye West, Drake and Future have also graced in the past. As if such a main stage debut wasn’t enough accomplishment to bask in for the entire weekend, Saweetie simultaneously celebrated the release of her debut EP, High Maintenance. Released on March 16th, High Maintenance is nine-track project with production by Zaytoven and Cash MoneyAP.

Saweetie immediately followed the release of her EP with an official video release for the song “B.A.N.” — (Bum A** N*ggas) featured on the project.

Catch Saweetie at this year’s Rolling Loud Festival in Miami May 11-13th alongside Future, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and 21 Savage to name a few. You can stream High Maintenance here and watch the official B.A.N. video below.

A lot has changed for Rich Homie Quan after receiving quite the success during the early stages of his career with his breakout song “Type of Way,” and originally being affiliated with Birdman’s Rich Gang label, and even closer affiliation with his former partner in crime, Young Thug. After not releasing any new work for nearly two years, he has since signed a new major label deal with Motown Records, in which he released his Back to the Basics mixtape soon after.

After much speculation and various approaches to the ultimate goal, Rich Homie Quan finally gifted his fans with his debut album, Rich As In Spirit on March 16th. Rich As In Spirit is a 19-track album, almost free of features with the exception to Rick Ross on the song ‘Think About It’.

The album’s title symbolizes the value in mind elevation being just as important, if not more important than the value of money. Rich Homie explained that the title came to him from a jail stint he did in which one of his roommates asked him what exactly his name meant. The particular rooomate proceeded to guess “rich as in spirit?” Although, his name had no underlying meaning at the time, Rich Homie took that with him forever knowing it was powerful enough to be the title of his debut album whenever that time would come.

The Rich As In Spirit album was preluded by the three singles, “Changed,” “Bossman,” and “34.” Rich Homie previously took to Instagram to announce that a documentary was also in the works. Until then, you can stream Rich As In Spirit here.

There seems to be a trend of new releases from Wale since parting ways with Atlantic Records. We’ve received a new project from the DC native at least once every fourteen days since the release of ‘All Star Break Up’ on Valentine’s Day.

Today, fans were surprised with a new four song EP titled It’s Complicated. The concise trackless consist of one feature from Jacquees on what seems to be a fan favorite song, ‘Black Bonnie’. In announcing the release of the It’s Complicated EP on Instagram, Wale explained that this compilation of songs is dedicated to anybody whose heart is at odds with the mind.

In the midst of sharing dialogue with fans on Twitter, Wale expresses how social media is now the only tool he can utilize to promote his music so he hopes his fans go into overdrive for him while he simultaneously overly uses the retweet button to ensure the message in the music is delivered accordingly.

Although Wale is officially an independent artist again, this climactic time in his career seems to be of major benefit to his true fans as he returns to his true essence of poetry and storytelling without the demands or constraints of a major label deal.

You can stream It’s Complicated on all all platforms now.
