Fran Drescher’s from the popular 90’s sitcom, The Nanny stopped by PeopleTV’s Chatter earlier this week and announced that a reboot of the show could possibly be in the works. Although networks have not shown extreme interest in green-lighting this reboot, Drescher says she’s working on a very big project that will be very exciting for fans of The Nanny.

The icing on the cake is that Drescher has her eye on “Bodak Yellow” star, Cardi B, playing her daughter in the reboot. After Cardi took to The Tonight Show last December wearing a green silk and fur top that looks as if it came straight out of Fran Drescher’s closet, in addition to Cardi dedicating her full cheetah print Milan Fashion Week outfit to Fran in an Instagram post, Fran and fans alike believe that would be a match made in heaven.

Drescher stated, “I got my juices flowing and thought, ‘Wait a minute, she’s from New York, we both have funny voices, she could be my daughter!’”

— Texas and Pennsylvania are the most confident regions in the U.S., with Chicago being the least
— Body confidence levels are highest within individuals ranging in ages of 50 – 60 years old
— 40% of respondents claim their confidence levels are higher than five years ago as they continue to grow more comfortable with their bodies
— 43% of participants agree that seeing body diversity in the marketing imagery makes them feel better
— 39% of participants agree that social media affects their body confidence – of which respondents under 30 were almost 2.5x more likely to be affected versus respondents over 30— 54% of participants feel most body confident when in a romantic relationship and/or dating
— 49% attribute their partner to their confidence

Ciara is preparing to release her seventh studio album after taking a break from entertainment to focus on her little family which includes Seattle Seahawks quarterback, Russell Wilson, her son, baby Future, and her one-year-old daughter with Wilson, Sienna Wilson. In her new cover story with Cosmopolitan, Ciara expressed that her dreams have no limits but she measures her success according to her marriage and her duties as a mom. She explained, “It’s cool to want to do all these creative things, but it’s no good to gain the world if you lose your soul.”

Ciara went on to discuss how Destiny’s Child inspired her to become an entertainer, how she deals with trolls online, and her post-baby fitness routine in which has helped her achieve her sexy all over again after two babies. Ciara admitted, “ It was kind of like, wake up in the morning, breastfeed, eat a small meal, go train, come back in, breastfeed, eat another meal, go train, then come back, have another meal, and then a third training session at night. It was a good challenge, one I set for myself, not for anyone else. Taking care of myself makes me feel really good. And I want to keep it sexy too, you know.”

Cardi B’s little tussle with Nicki Minaj this weekend isn’t stopping her money moves. On Sunday, Tom Ford declared the arrival of a lipstick named after the Bronx rapper in a wonderful shade of cobalt blue. The new collection was sold out within 24 hours of its announcement.

If you head over to tomford.com there is no way to purchase the lipstick. The shade, which is an interesting decision considering Cardi’s blood ties, debuted at Tom Ford’s most recent Boys and Girls collection at their Spring/Summer 2019 NYFW show.

Naming colors after celebrities is a tradition at the brand. Naomi Campbell, Dakota Johnson, and Julianne Moore are a few women who have been gifted with their own shade. This year the brand also released an orchid lipstick named after Black Panther breakout star, Letitia Wright. Counting Cardi’s, there are 15 new Boys shades and 15 new Girls shades.

News of Cardi B’s sold out lipstick comes when pop stars and influencers are killing the beauty game. Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty turned a year old last week. Kylie Jenner’s cosmetic line made her a billionaire and will be available in Ulta Beauty soon.

It’s unclear if Tom Ford plans to restock Bardi’s shade, but if or when that happens you can check out the other lipsticks in the collection at tomford.com.

The 2018 SOURCE360 weekend has come to an end. We had a myriad of memorable moments which will make the fifth annual conference and festival one for the ages.

Likewise, on day two we took over BRIC in Brooklyn, where fashion and beauty enthusiast came from far and near to join our conversation on an assortment of industry related topics.

A conversation featuring model, Jessica White, stylist/life coach Misa Hylton, Tasha Turner of Beauty Beat NYC, photographer, Marc Baptiste, and beautypreneur/actress, African Miranda.

Each panelist and host Tasha Turner shared their personal stories as well as intimate advice on navigating challenges along the way. However, Africa Miranda’s unique perspective resonated with us.

“Passion + Purpose = Profit is my life equation, its how I’m able to make quick decisions. In this business, you don’t always have a lot of time. The first thing when I’m presented with an opportunity, I ask myself if I’m passionate about it. Or do I feel something in my gut? Does it make my hair stand on it? Does it make me excited? So I have to be passsionate about it. Then, If i’m passionate about it, I ask myself is it inline with my purpose? My purpose in this life is to help people create opportunities to tell their stories. I’m passionate about storytelling. I think we all need to learn our voice and say things in our own voice. Back to the equation: Am I Passionate about it? (Yes), Is it inline with my purpose? (Yes), If those two things are yesses, then it’s profitable. Profitable meaning, is it going to help someone? Does it help me (financially)? Can it help move forward in my career? Or it may help me grow as a person. But it will be something that creates growth. This is my life equation.”

Intricately spoken, this beautiful equation is simple enough for any creative to be able to master. The value of passion and purpose should never be underestimated. Whatever your passion may be, find a way to give it purpose. When you have a passion coupled with purpose, profit will follow.

Yet we want to reiterate Miranda’s point of profit meaning helping others and pushing careers forward. Financial profit is needed as well but it should never be the only goal.

Hip Hop producer and fashion icon Pharell Willams is a prime example of the equation in practice. Starting out with a passion for music, skateboarding, and style he went on to establish his own lane. Thus seguing into his Billionaire Boys Club/ Ice Cream Brand. Most notably is their slogan “Wealth is of the heart and mind, not of the pocket.”

All things considered, find your passion, structure a purpose and the profits will leave you fulfilled no matter the financial gain.

This Wednesday we are crushing on stylist and life coach Misa Hylton who will be speaking on our HERSource Glam Panel this Friday, September 7th at BRIC Arts Media in Brooklyn giving her expert tips on fashion, beauty and style.
Helmed as the creator of the coveted 90’s look, the multi-talented stylist who has created iconic fashion moments for 24 years told the New York Times Style Magazine that her creativity was self-taught and came organically from within.

“I didn’t go to fashion school; my education came from experience and through my connections,” Hylton says. “I was just a girly girl who listened to hip-hop and would daydream about clothes and what you would wear if you were listening and living in that hip-hop zone. Maybe I would think about going to a party and what would be cool to wear to this party while this music was playing.”

Credited for creating some of hip-hop’s most iconic looks, Misa can also be credited for nudging her then-boyfriend to sign the greatest rapper of all time. (Don’t @ me.)

“Sean almost didn’t sign Biggie because, at first, he didn’t know how he was going to market him,” Hylton says. “And I remember saying, ‘You make him the biggest, blackest, flyest dude in the world.’”

This year Rihanna will show her lingerie line at the New York Fashion Week. She will close the show out and we can’t wait to see what the Barbados star does! Rihanna and the Savage x Fenty line launched earlier this year is showing at 6:30 p.m. on September 12. She brought a visual artist, Phillipa Price, as the line’s creative director, and we can’t wait to see how this plays out by Rih presenting her fall collection for the first time.

Rihanna recently announced that she will have her documentary available to fans in the late fall. She and the director, Peter Berg, announced that earlier this year. She also was seen in Cuba with Donald Glover on shooting a film. We are waiting on the “Kiss It Better” artist to release some new music very soon!

Star and creator of the hit show Insecure, Issa Rae stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to talk about her upcoming third season on HBO.

During the show, Rae reveals how she used to be afraid of upsetting people in the industry when she was still a newbie to the big screen until she was given some hardcore no-frills advice by some hard hitters in Hollywood.

“I tend to be afraid of upsetting people and that will get you no where
As a show runner and being in the industry—just as a woman. Once your labeled difficult your career is kind of over with and no one wants to work with you. I have a great group of women I talk to, People I admire like Shonda Rhimes, Ava Duvernay, Debbie Allen, Mara Brock…”

The advice I got from them is—‘Don’t be afraid to be a bitch.’

Since the birth of baby Kulture, Cardi B has been settling in as a new mother and getting adjusted to the changes — so much so that she made the decision to cancel her tour appearances with Bruno Mars. Although we’ve yet to see baby Kulture, Cardi took to Instagram Live while she Kulture was sleeping to update fans on all things to come from the Bronx native.

In a five minute Instagram Live segment, Cardi explained the release of her Fashion Nova collection being pushed back from fashion week in September to a new November release date due to the number of pieces actually being released. More specifically, there will be over 100 pieces inf the collection and an official Fashion Nova release party in which Cardi will perform alongside two other upcoming female rap acts.

As far as new music from Cardi, she expressed that there were about five songs that were supposed to be on Invasion of Privacy but unfortunately didn’t make the tracklist because they weren’t a perfect fit. She has since decided to put it on a new project that she is planning to release on September 1st, if and only she is able to complete about five more songs to make it a full project.

Before ending her Instagram Live segment she let fans in on the depths of her workload in which involve roughly six features for other artists, songs for herself, and even music videos to be released with her new music. We all know Cardi is a workaholic so in due time a wave of new Cardi music will be impacted the world again.

Although we’ve already saw the OG red/blue/grey color theme, this time around we’re introduced to an all-black version with white accents on the side panel vector logo, heel, inner lining and midsole. Even though the 20-year-old chanteuse was probably still in diapers (or the womb!) when this silhouette was enjoying its peak notoriety, her old-soul vocal talent matches the retro vibe of the Rapide to a tee.

New York rapper Princess Nokia has always expressed her love for the ‘90s style era aesthetic, as the clothing she rocks on the regular boasts the same relaxed and effortless energy that the influential decade is known in part for.

In her newest partnership that she took to social media to announce, the style rebel (known to her loved ones as Destiny Frasqueri) takes us down memory lane as the new face for Betsey Johnson’s Fall 2018 Campaign.

As a nostalgic symbol of pretty, punk and all-around fun — colorful designs for millennials everywhere! — Betsey’s larger-than-life fashion personality is bringing the essence and the signature energy of her namesake brand to a new group of consumers in this latest collection. “Betsey is a icon to many NYC club kids and fashion weirdos. The plaid, the dresses, the somersault at the end of every season’s show. Can’t tell me I’m not a fan, darling,” Princess Nokia shared in reflection of the designer’s impact and brand.

In the campaign, Princess Nokia is sporting a wide range of modern takes on classic Betsey Johnson pieces and design elements — plaid, tulle, fishnet stockings, pop art, leopard and bright, bold prints and colors. The looks featured are all styled to perfection to evoke the energy that the Betsey Johnson brand is known for. The collection is described as “everything you need to channel your inner rebel,” with the “Morphine” singer serving as the perfect choice to introduce the collection. Statement pieces of the new collection are the novelty statement bags, oversized jeweled pendants and clothing with tulle, lace and plaid. The overall vibe of the collection is definitely for a bold, vibrant, modern rocker chick.

With style influences like Aaliyah, Posh Spice and J. Lo, the Puerto Rican-American artist oozes ‘90s nostalgic style, making her a great fit as the face of this campaign.

The iconic Naomi Campbell will be honored by Essence during New York Fashion Week. Page Six reports the legendary model will be celebrated at the annual Street Style Festival that will take place at the Duggal Greenhouse in Brooklyn on September 9.

Additional honorees at the Street Style Festival include singer Kelis and fashion influencer Kellie Brown. Amanda Seales will be on hosting duties, while Teyana Taylor and Yemi Alade will be slated to perform.

Recently Campbell spoke about her desire to help young and rising fashion designers to have a place to showcase their work. “I want to do a platform because not everyone can go to these big fashion weeks around the world and put money into showing their product,” she mentioned as a panelist for Cannes Lions.

Campbell also received the fashion icon award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America earlier this summer.

LaQuan Smith, whose designs are favored by Cardi B, Beyonce, and Rihanna, is bringing his sexy garments to the mass market to dress millions of 20-somethings in a partnership with mega online retailer ASOS.

The announcement of this collaboration between the Queens, New York native and ASOS is a step forward for boosting the visibility of black designers in the fashion industry. Despite the undeniable black influence on pop culture and fashion, few African Americans—and their contributions—are consistently recognized in a major way for their efforts, especially in the fashion industry. Though the visibility of black creators and artists is rising and the black gaze in fashion is slowly being seen as valuable currently, much work still has to be done.

The ASOS x LaQuan Smith collaboration came about casually, with Lola Okuyiga, the then director of collaborations and special projects at ASOS, playing a key role. She approached Smith’s team with the opportunity after being a fan of the brand for years and expressed interest in working together.

The ASOS Design x LaQuan Smith collection will bring the stunning creations from Smith that showcases a luxurious nightlife aesthetic with hallmarks like plunging necklines, body-hugging silhouettes and high slits to a wider audience. The British retailer boasts reach of over 18 million active customers. “Customers can expect classic, sexy LaQuan Smith shapes—women’s, men’s, accessories, shoes and plus size—reworked for the global ASOS customer. There is something for everyone,” the designer had to say. “I’m just really excited because there are a lot of people out there, specifically young kids, who aspire to wear my clothes that can’t necessarily afford it. Items in this collection will sell for less than $300, a price in line with the majority of offerings on the ASOS site.

The ASOS x LaQuan Smith collection will be available on the ASOS website in October.

After all of the rumors swirling that Nike was working on a rainbow-soled Blazer with Virgil Abloh and the release of the latest Tech Pack drop, Nike Sportswear is back with a new collection called Nike Sport Pack.

The new collection from Nike fuses bold graphics, textiles, silhouettes and contemporary and signature design elements, offering a collection that is equal parts sporty and stylish. Sport Pack features mix-and-match separates, track pants, outerwear, dresses, t-shirts, sweatshirts, accessories and more. The pieces from Sport Pack allow the wearer to easily merge them into their wardrobe and express their personality. The line is designed to alter the boundaries of sport, ultimately delivering a new language of creative self-expressive.

“Nike Sport Pack is an entirely new collection that draws from the energy and emotion of sport, while providing a bold new expression for Nike. We are referencing our own history and heritage in a way that’s uniquely Nike. It goes back to that idea of cut-and-paste sensibility—taking things from different eras and different reference points and putting them together,” says Senior Design Director Ricky Hendry of the collection.

The campaign that introduced Nike Sport Pack boasts a youthful, fun, cool and free energy. Featuring stars like Sloane Stephens, Odell Beckham Jr., Mabel and many more, this campaign gives off a vibe that is both vintage and modern and trendy.

Nike Sport Pack is now available on the Nike website and in Nike Kickslounge stores in Greater China, with a global release following on August 16.

Anyone who has experienced the energy of an HBCU, whether at a tailgate, halftime show, an event or simply walking around campus, can attest to vibe being one that is unmatched.

The one undeniable quality that is present at the HBCUs in the U.S. is the amount of style and fashion sense displayed on-campus is like no other. When walking onto an HBCU campus, be ready for a fashionable spectacle of grand proportions. One is sure to see styles and fashions that are reminiscent of the places that tell students’ life stories and are the looks that influence global fashion trends.

Southern University and A&M College alumni Amechi Ugwu understood the importance of paying homage to the fashion contributions that come out of these institutions. His solution to preserving the legacy of HBCU fashion influences led to the birth of Torch Sportswear, an apparel brand whose “vintage collection of HBCU apparel and memorabilia that represents the diverse group of institutions across the country that have educated African American students for over 100 years.”

Torch Sportswear is the first e-commerce store to exclusively sell vintage HBCU apparel and accessories. The inventory includes colorful unisex sweatshirts, bomber jackets, graphic t-shirts, baseball hats, jerseys and pullovers that proudly display the logos of illustrious institutions like Alabama State, Southern University, Spelman, North Carolina A&T, Grambling, Howard, Florida A&M and more. The product pricing ranges from $50 to $400.

Ugwu decided to launch Torch Sportswear in 2012, during his junior year at Southern University. He felt such an immense amount of pride as an HBCU student who was carrying on the legacy of black scholars who were intellectually and sartorially gifted. He was also inspired by the style of his fellow classmates strutting across campus in dope looks, especially seeing how they would rock fashion pieces with vintage finds and school paraphernalia.

Looking good and stepping out in style is something that is engrained in the DNA of African Americans. An HBCU campus definitely boasts an aura of “When you step out, you better come correct!” Shoutout to Amechi Ugwu and Torch Sportswear on such a dope movement to keep the legacy of HBCU style going!

The relationship between sports and fashion is one that has strong ties, and the influence of sports in fashion (and vice versa) is one that continues to grow.

The iconic Italian label Kappa has managed to make its presence known with dynamic and unique ath-leisure offerings that have caught the attention of streetwear lovers from around the world and of influencers in music, fashion, and sports. Kappa’s distinctive “Omini” logo features a man and woman leaning against one another, representative of the equality and mutual support between men and women. The logo is now a recognizable symbol of style and quality. It has arguably been referred to as the European equivalent to the triple stripes from Adidas. That statement speaks to the impact the Kappa has on both the sports and fashion worlds.

The Italian streetwear brand has outfitted Olympians and champions like Valerie Brisco-Hooks, Florence Griffith, and Edwin Moses, supplied clothing for NYC marathon runners, and also operates as a sponsor of national and pro soccer teams like Juventus, A.C. Milan and F.C. Barcelona. The CEO of Kappa USA, Puneet Girdhar, defines Kappa as a “legend brand” in relation to heavy involvement and visibility in sports. With the amount of work they have put in, the moniker from the Girdhar is no misnomer.

Kappa’s S/S 2018 “BANDA” collection is the star of the editorial shot by Polina Vinogradova. The collection speaks to the essence of Kappa as a brand and showcases the bold branding that is prevalent in pieces influenced by streetwear.

The capsule collection features an array of t-shirts, track jackets, and oversized sweatpants, with the “Omini” logo subtly stealing the show throughout the editorial. The styling features everyday pieces and articles of clothing like denim, minimal jewelry, and cozy sneakers. The “BANDA” capsule presents a cool take on the much-loved tracksuits and separates that the Italian streetwear brand is known for.

News of Beyonce’s September takeover of Vogue, including the first Black cover photographer in the magazine’s history, rocked the Internet with anticipation but that wasn’t the only headline to grab attention from the fashion journalism staple. There were also rumors that fashion icon Anna Wintour was set to leave her post as Editor-in-Chief.

After the rumors ran rampant online for a couple of days, Condé Nast, owner of the publication, released a statement from their CEO, Bob Sauerberg:

“Anna Wintour is an incredibly talented and creative leader whose influence is beyond measure. She is integral to the future of our company’s transformation and has agreed to work with me indefinitely in her roles as @voguemagazine editor-in-chief and artistic director of Condé Nast.”
