Throughout the NBA Playoffs, there was the debate on who deserved to be KIA NBA Rookie of the Year, with fans torn between the efforts of Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz and Ben Simmons of the Philadelphia 76ers. Both players are currently in their off-season but can celebrate the fact that they have been named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

The NBA revealed the honors today and the first team was rounded out by Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics, who joins the aforementioned two as Rookie of the Year finalists, Los Angeles Laker Kyle Kuzma, and Chicago Bull Lauri Markkanen.

The All-Rookie second team is headlined by the most famous of all the rookies, Laker Lonzo Ball and is joined in the backcourt by highflying Dallas Maverick Dennis Smith Jr. The frontcourt is occupied by John Collins, Bogdan Bogdanovic and Josh Jackson of the Atlanta Hawks, Sacramento Kings, and Phoenix Suns, respectively.

The announcement of the Rookie of the Year will come after the NBA Finals on June 25, but be on the lookout for more honors to wrap up another busy NBA Season to drop periodically across the duration of the NBA Playoffs.

Steph Curry got his swagger back, and did a quick shimmy to show it.

The two-time MVP scored 35 points while playing 34 minutes, with 18 of those points being the result of a perfect 3rd quarter. Curry shot 7 for 7, and that’s when he decided to let loose on the celebratory shake. Curry was due for a big game after struggling in both Game 1 and Game 2.

“Third quarter, it opened up,” said Curry. “I’ve been doing this for a while. I won’t let two tough games shooting keep me frustrated.”

STEPH IS BACK. 🔥🔥🔥

A post shared by House of Highlights (@houseofhighlights) on

The Warriors bounced back from their Game 2 loss to the Rockets, and Draymond Green was right; prior to Game 3, he exclaimed that the Warriors play the best when they feel threatened. The return to The Oracle Arena proved that to be true. Golden State set a new franchise record, as the 41-point win is the largest margin of victory in the team’s Playoffs history.

Green was not shocked by Curry’s explosion because he expects more to come.

“You go to certain arenas and a guy gets a dunk and it’s absurd,” stated Green. “Don’t mean to disappoint, but I’ve seen crazier from him.”

The reigning defensive player of the year finished the game with 10 points, 17 rebounds and 6 assists.

Kevin Durant added a mere 25 points, with the Warriors’ starters being able to rest for the majority of the 4th quarter.

On the Rockets side of the ball, Houston shot 39% from the field and 32% from the three-point range. The Rockets are one of the few teams in the NBA that can hold their own when shooting against the Warriors. Golden State gave Houston too much to handle. James Harden and Chris Paul combined for 33 points and 6 turnovers.

“Offensively, we didn’t have any thrust, and they exploited it,” said Harden. Both Harden and Curry were victims of Curry’s offensive mirage on multiple occasions.

The two teams split the first 2 games and now the Warriors have a 2-1 lead. One can predict a high scoring affair from both teams in the next game. If the Warriors protect home court, consider the series over.

Game 4 will be played at Oracle Arena on Tuesday night (May 22).

For every reason you can think of to make sports gambling legal, there’s a million more reasons that show the negative side affects to it. Case in point: what if someone offers a player to throw a game?

Metta World Peace, formerly known as Ron Artest, recently stated that while he was playing college ball at St. John University, he was approached on multiple occasions about throwing games for money, including an incident when someone approached him in his neighborhood with a $35,000 offer to fix a game. He didn’t take the offer, but says it definitely crossed his mind.

World Peace said those kinds of scenarios worry him in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling that ended a federal ban on sports betting in most states, essentially opening up an avenue for legal sports betting across the country.

In the clip above, Metta addresses it all by stating, “That’s the problem. When you don’t have any money, they find these kids that ain’t got no money, and they attack them.” He continued by adding, “What if I was some kid that was a little scared? ‘OK, I’ll do it,’ right? That’s the problem I have with betting, because these guys that are betting — some of them are bullies, and they’ll force a kid into a situation, and then, when the kid’s trying to go the NBA, they hold it against the kid. They gotta have really harsh rules on people using kids.”

While World Peace makes a great point to the negative affects of sports gambling, especially on the collegiate level, now might be the time the NCAA looks to paying student athletes a stipend, before things like this become the new normal.

The NFL announced Thursday that the Cleveland Browns will be featured on the next season of HBO’s Hard Knocks.

HBO reportedly selected the Browns out of a pool of six teams, that also included the San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Chargers, Baltimore Ravens and Washington Redskins.

Cleveland is the 13th franchise to participate in Hard Knocks, which began in 2001 with the Baltimore Ravens. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were featured last summer.

The Browns, coming off a 0-16 season, have been so bad for so long, and have several potentially interesting storylines entering 2018.

The number 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, Baker Mayfield, will be competing with newly required Browns’ quarterback  Tyrod Taylor for the starting quarterback position. That should generate a ton of material for HBO to use.

Although they’ve won only one game in the past two seasons under coach Hue Jackson, the Browns see the show as a possibility to highlight some of their younger players and put a positive spin on their rebuild.

Between Hard Knocks and LeBron James’ upcoming decision,  it seems like it will be another interesting summer in Cleveland.

The new “Finally Mine” spot takes us into the gamut of emotions that athletes feel when they win a NBA Championship. Tears, happiness, extreme enthusiasm — these are just a few of the things we’ve seen from guys like LeBron James, Shaq, Steph Curry, Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki and of course “His Airness” MJ.

Check out the short video montage below — set to the retro-soul sound of singer Juliet Roberts — and make sure to watch the 2018 NBA Finals when they begin on May 31.

Police shot a man at the Trump National Doral Golf Club, a Miami-area resort owned by U.S. President Donald Trump, early on Friday morning, police said.

The man, who was not identified, was taken to a local hospital and it was unclear what condition he was in, the Miami-Dade Police Department said on Twitter.

Officers responded to a call about shots being fired, and they shot a man there, the department said.

Trump National Doral Golf Club, an 800-acre resort outside of Miami, is home to four championship golf courses, including the Blue Monster, which plays host to a PGA Tour event each year. Trump bought the property for $150 million in 2012.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement was investigating the shooting involving police, the Miami-Dade Police Department said.

The Cavaliers are now starring at an 0-2 deficit in the Eastern Conference Finals.

LeBron James came out extremely aggressive. It was expected of him. He scored 21 points in the first quarter; the most he has scored in an opening quarter in the 2018 playoffs. James set the tone for the Cavs to jump out into an early lead in the first half. The three time NBA Champion was hitting from all cylinders, including that Kobe-like fadeaway he has shown throughout the playoffs. He hit four three pointers in the first half.

The Celtics’ momentum and crowd helped them to weather the storm despite LeBron James’s dominance. They had a response to each and every blow given by LeBron James. Boston came out in the 2nd half with the swagger they have played with all season. It was led by “Scary” Terry Rozier. Rozier’s first half included 2 points and one field goal. He decided to change his sneakers and lit up the scoreboard with 17 points in the 3rd quarter. It all started with defense. The Cavs shot 9 for 22 in the third quarter The Celtics ran away with the game after Rozier’s spark.

“We’re going to fight,” said Rozier.”

“At this point we don’t care if we win by half a point. If we win, that’s all that matters.”

They carried their momentum into the 4th quarter and did not relinquish the lead. Big contributions came from a number of players. The entire Celtics starting 5 scored in double figures, with Jaylen Brown leading the way with 23 points. With less than 4 minutes left to play in the fourth quarter, JR Smith was called for a flagrant foul after pushing Al Horford in the air. The action resulted in Marcus Smart getting in Smith’s face. It was perceived as a dirty play, but Smith denied any malevolent intent. Smart was simply sticking up for his teammate.

“We have each other’s backs,” said Horford. “We moved on to the next play and we locked in after that.”

They most certainly did. Horford responded with a 3 point player on the following possession to extend that 8 point lead and the Celtics would ultimately win by 13 points.

Boston took care of business at home. As the series shifts to Cleveland for the next two games, the Cavs have no choice but to do the same.

Look out for Game 3 on Saturday (May 19).

When the NFL Carolina Panthers went up for sale, many showed interest. I mean, who wouldn’t want to own a professional sports team? Only the 1% apparently– Bloomberg reports suggests that bidding began at $2.5 billion. This amount would be a United States franchise record.

That list of candidates included Ben Navarro ($3 billion net worth), Michael Rubin ($3 billion net worth), and Bad Boy records and Ciroc Boys very own P. Diddy ($900 million net worth). However, they all were not able to make the deal happen. Instead, billionaire mogul David Tepper ($11 billion net worth) will take over the shoes of Jerry Richardson who decided to sell after being investigated by the NFL.

Tepper owns 5% of his hometown Pittsburg Steelers which he will now has to sell. He also recently sold his share of Apple– reportedly in the range of $770 million. He equally has a strong philanthropy résumé. Donating $3 million this past year to help with hurricane relief in Puerto Rico and Texas. Louis Vuitton is continuing their longstanding relationship with FIFA by releasing a new set of gear to commemorate the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The leather goods accessories — each piece in the set is officially licensed product — is inspired by the 1970 FIFA World Cup, mainly with the design of the Keepall and Apollo bags. LV adds its signature touch with the Epi leather construction, which is designed to resemble the hexagons on a soccer ball. There’s also a “Made-to-Order” Keepall available as well, featuring colors that could relate to most national flags.

Check for the Louis Vuitton 2018 FIFA World Cup collection starting June 15 at select LV stores and online, but don’t sleep; the limited run ends on July 15.

We are in full swing for baseball season but superstar Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano won’t take any swings from the batter’s box in the forthcoming weeks. The baseball all-star has been suspended 80 games without pay by Major League Baseball after testing positive for a banned substance.

ESPN reports the Tuesday (May 15) announcement shared Cano test positive for Furosemide. The substance, which is also diuretic, is in violation of the drug prevention and treatment program of the MLB.

In response to the news of the suspension, Cano issued a statement on social media where he accepts responsibility for the use of Furosemide, however, he states that he was unaware that the substance was banned and stands firm on the fact that it is not one of Performance Enhancement. Cano shares Furosemide was provided by a licensed doctor from the Dominican Republic and his usage was to treat a medical ailment.

If the 80 games weren’t enough to crush the star’s spirits he will encounter a loss of $11.85 million of this year’s contract. In addition to losing money, if his Mariners were to make it to the MLB Postseason he would have to watch instead of assisting his teammates to try and win the championship.

“I apologize to my family, friends, fans, teammates and the Mariners organization,” Cano stated. “I am extremely grateful for the support I have received during this process, and I look forward to rejoining my teammates later this season.”

The full statement from the Roc Nation represented slugger is available below.

We are in the thick of the Conference Finals of the NBA Playoffs and we already have more basketball to look forward in 2019. ESPN Films and Netflix are tag-teaming for a 10-part docu-series that will highlight Michael Jordan and the dominant Chicago Bulls teams of the 1990s.

Titled, The Last Dance, the docu-series will have an in-depth look into one of the most legendary dynasties to take the hardwood. ESPN states the series will be created from over 500 hours of never-before-seen content from the championship season of 1997-98 that served as both the close of the Bulls reign and the last games before MJ’s second retirement.

Adding to the series must-watch credibility is the participation of the GOAT himself, who has signed off on participating in the series according to Richard Deitsch of the Athletic. With the addition of Jordan, there is the opportunity to gain insight on his career ranging from his arrival to the Windy City to the growth of the teams, conquering legendary foes and the final break up. After being drafted No.3 overall in 1984, Jordan tallied up six rings, six Finals MVPs, and five regular-season MVPs among a plethora of other accomplishments in the Chicago red and black jersey.

The series will be directed by Jason Hehir, who recently was at the helm of the Andre the Giant documentary and produced by Mike Tollin.

Be on the lookout for more regarding the docu-series and view the teaser featuring Jordan, Phil Jackson, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman and all of the legendary figures of those ball clubs below.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday paved the way for states to legalize sports gambling, striking down a 1992 federal law that barred it in most places and setting off a rush by businesses and states to cash in on an expected multibillion-dollar jackpot.

The justices endorsed New Jersey’s bid to allow such wagering in a ruling that ushers in a new era for the leading U.S. sports leagues, which had sued to block the state’s sports gambling law and called such betting a threat to the integrity of competition, fearing game-fixing and other types of cheating.

In a ruling that sent shares in gaming companies and casinos soaring, the court voided the federal Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act and upheld the legality of a 2014 state law permitting sports betting at New Jersey casinos and horse racetracks.

Some states see sports betting, like lotteries, as a potentially lucrative source of tax revenue. The American Gaming Association estimates there is currently a $150 billion-a-year illegal sports-betting market.

The ruling takes the United States a step closer to legal sports betting in numerous states, perhaps nationwide, rather than just in select places such as Nevada, home to the gambling capital Las Vegas. The 1992 law had effectively prohibited sports gambling in all states except Nevada and, to a limited extent, Delaware, Montana and Oregon.

“New Jersey has long been the lead advocate in fighting this inherently unequal law, and today’s ruling will finally allow for authorized facilities in New Jersey to take the same bets that are legal in other states in our country,” New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, a Democrat, said in a statement.

The ruling adds to a decades-long trend of decreased restrictions on various types of gambling in the United States.

At the beginning of any series in the NBA Playoffs, it’s expected that the home team will get off to an early lead by taking Game 1. The Celtics jumped out to an early lead in the game and did not look back. In a 108-83 win, the Celtics’ defense proved to be their most valuable weapon, especially Marcus Morris. He was tasked with primarily guarding LeBron James

“It’s exciting,” said Morris. “I love the challenge. But it’s a team effort.”

He picked up two quick fouls early in the first quarter, but Celtics coach, Brad Stevens, elected to keep him in. Morris finished the game with three fouls. He was the front line of defense, but Boston gave the three-time Finals MVP a number of different defenders, and it worked for Game 1. The four-time league MVP shot 5-16 and committed 7 turnovers. It is not what we are used to seeing out of the 15-year veteran, especially in his great postseason run. Despite the Game 1 collapse though, King James is not a bit unsettled; and likely so. He’s been here before.

“I have zero level of concern at this stage,” James said. “You see ways you can get better throughout the series.”

In the opening round of the Playoffs against Indiana, Cleveland was staring at a nail-biting 0-1 deficit as well. Of course, this is a different team, but similar situation nonetheless.

“I’ve been down in the postseason before,” stated James. “I’m just as confident going into a series whether it’s a 0-0 series or I’m down 0-1.” He has earned every right because we have all seen this situation before. Game 2 will show Cleveland’s adjustments.

The Celtics were hitting on all cylinders. They finished with four players in double figures, with Jaylen Brown leading the way with a game high 23 points. Morris added 21 points and 10 boards. Despite the youth of the Celtics, they are hungry and playing with a swagger that’s lead them to this point. Brad Stevens continues to emphasize his theory that you don’t have to win every game, but it’s necessary to grow and get better from every game. After the win, he greeted the team in the locker room, making sure that they understand the level of play they have to bring in Game 2.

“I think we’re very alert to the fact that we’ll get a heavyweight punch on Tuesday night,” said the Celtics coach. “It’s another great challenge, another great opportunity to experience something for this team.”

The Celtics are 8-0 at home in this postseason.

The last time LeBron James was down 0-1 in the postseason, he scored 46 points and 71 percent shooting in a win. Let’s see what we will witness despite the adversity in this case.

Catch Game 2 on Tuesday night (May 15) in Boston.

In just his 12th professional bout, two-time Olympic gold medalist Vasiliy Lomachenko (11-1, 9 KOs) won his third world title in as many weight classes. He’s now the fastest boxer in history to accomplish that feat by stopping a determined Jorge Linares (44-4) in the 10th round of a thrilling lightweight title bout.

Lomachenko broke the record held by Australian legend Jeff Fenech, a Hall of Famer who won world titles at bantamweight and junior featherweight before winning a belt at featherweight in his 20th fight in 1988.

Lomachenko had to come off the canvas himself, as Linares dropped him late in the sixth round with a beautiful right hand that found Lomachenko making a rare mistake of overconfidence. He stepped into a perfect rocket and finding himself on his seat as a result.

Lomachenko, though, proved there’s more than just pure dominance to his game, as he came back from that well and stopped Linares from developing any major rhythm. However, Linares did put up a good fight and gave Lomachenko a real contest for the first time in a while.

What the Ukranian boxer does next is up in the air. There’s money in a fight with Mikey Garcia at the 135 lebel, but it seems Garcia is busy in Julyit appears.

Either way, Lomachenko’s claim to being the pound-for-pound the best boxer today is a legit claim.

Kobe Bryant continues to cement his footprint in the NBA soil, without even suiting up in a jersey.

First, our former Lakers legend became the first athlete to win an Academy Award back in February. Now the five-time NBA Champion has taken his storytelling talents to ESPN +,  a new subscription-based streaming platform that you can purchase for $4.99. Thankfully, you can take advantage of the seven-day free trial.

The show, which Bryant named Detail, is structured around his opinions as he dissects the performances of specific NBA players. The pilot episode takes the viewer through one of the Mamba’s classic Playoff performances: the 2009 Western Conference Finals Game 6, where he picks apart the Denver Nuggets. If you remember, this win lead him to the NBA Finals and a 4th Championship.

As one of the NBA’s greatest players, and an unanimous future first ballot Hall of Famer, Kobe was notorious for his ability to  both study the game and self-critique. The two-time Finals MVP has a keen eye for specifics to the game, and the proper execution for them as well. This skill helped him to become a five-time Champion.

With Detail, Kobe is sharing the wealth by passing down his knowledge to the young, up-and-coming stars of the NBA’s new generation, while simultaneously reinventing how the league analyzes film. Not to mention, he is providing an extra hand in the scouting report for many teams. Each episode will follow the game tape of a player’s performance in one game. The analyses provides a better understanding into that player’s game, but also Bryant’s method of thinking and reasoning. Many NBA teams and players are also allowed to compare and contrast.

“Determination wins game, but detail wins championships,” Bryant says before casually walking off the stage, in the show’s opening monologue.

In its first season, many are excited to see how far Bryant will take the analyses. As one of basketball’s greatest minds, it will be interesting to see if he extends Detail to the NCAA and even high school. Players will be ecstatic to have the Black Mamba provide in-depth examination on their game.

You can catch the Kobe Bryant’s Detail on ESPN +.

Toronto Raptors coach Dwane Casey will be named  2017-18 NBA Coach of the Year by the National Basketball Coaches Association, reports the New York Times.

The decision isn’t without merit, either. This season, Casey led Toronto to a franchise record 59 wins and the Eastern Conference’s top seed. The Raptors were just swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Speculation has been circulating around Casey’s future with the team though, with TSN reporting that the Raptors are leaning towards a coaching change amid the team’s constant postseason struggles.

Casey has five winning seasons and five playoff appearances in seven years. He has won four best-of-seven series. In 16 combined seasons, every other Raptors coach produced four winning seasons, five playoff appearances, and never won a best-of-seven. Casey is, without a doubt, the most successful coach in franchise history.

The idea of firing Casey is absurd. Toronto consistently runs into the best player in the world in LeBron James. Coaching can only take you so far against a juggernaut like James. If you look at LeBron’s finals loses, you will see you need multiple superstars to take him down.  Toronto doesn’t have enough talent and that’s not on the coach.

Basically, it’s not the coach’s fault Toronto is now known as LeBronto.

Things got way too real on Inside the NBA Tuesday night (May 8), as a conversation about DeMar DeRozan getting benched escalated into a shouting match between Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal.

The argument began when Barkley said the Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey needed to repair his relationship with DeRozan after sitting the star guard late in a Game 3 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday.

Before Barkley could finish his point, O’Neal interrupted: “No, he doesn’t.”

O’Neal argued that DeRozan was benched for a reason and countered Barkley’s argument that a team can’t win a championship unless the coach and star player get along.

The benching was a great topic for discussion, but they didn’t wrestle with it much. Instead, the argument turned personal when O’Neal told Barkley, “You got babied, that’s why you ain’t win.”

“I didn’t have Dwyane Wade and Kobe Bryant carrying me up and down the court,” Barkley shot back.

Shaq’s response, while pointing to one of his four rings: “Google me, Chuck!”

In a nutshell, Barkley was trying to tell Shaq that you do need to have a great relationship between your head coach and best player. Shaq loudly disagreed. Shaq went on to admit on the air that he and Pat Riley didn’t have the best relationship and they went on to win the 2006 NBA championship.

Barkley went on to remind Shaq he wasn’t the best player on that Miami Heat team, it was Dwyane Wade.  Shaq is right about one thing: NBA players shouldn’t be babied. Barkley is also right about a coach and his best players getting along to win.
