ESPN Music will be collaborating with Quality Control Music artists throughout the season to celebrate marquee match ups.

This Saturday, LeBron James takes the court for his first regular season home game against the Houston Rockets, and LeBron fan and friend Quavo recorded an original track to celebrate the debut, which will air on ESPN Saturday, Oct. 20, at 7:30 PT/10:30 ET on ESPN.

This collaboration with Quavo represents the first of the series of the Quality Control Music partnership with ESPN and will continue to feature different Quality Control artists contributing verses throughout the season, all produced by DJ Durel.

Steve Penny, the former president of USA Gymnastics who has been criticized for allegedly covering up sexual abuse by Larry Nassar, was arrested on Wednesday for tampering with evidence related to a Nassar investigation.

If convicted, Penny could receive two to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

He was arrested in Gatlinburg, Tenn., after a Texas indictment dated Sept. 28 called for his arrest.

It is the first arrest of an alleged Nassar enabler. USA Gymnastics’ leadership has faced previous allegations of both ignoring reports of Nassar’s massive sexual abuse and actively working to hide it.

The indictment by Texas authorities alleges that Penny ordered the removal of documents from the Karolyi Ranch where USA Gymnastics athletes trained in Walker County, Texas, that were related to Nassar’s activities at the ranch after learning an investigation was underway.

The documents were allegedly delivered to Penny at the USA Gymnastics headquarters in Indianapolis, where he either destroyed or hid them.

They have not been recovered.

The Texas Rangers and the Walker County Sheriff’s Office said in the indictment that the documents are “material” to their investigation of Nassar, and would have aided an investigation of other offenses at the ranch.

USA Gymnastics reported the abuse to the FBI five weeks after a coach voiced concern to its leadership, however, emails submitted to the Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, Insurance, and Data Security appear to show that one week before the FBI was notified, Penny ordered USA Gymnastics officials not to disclose reports of abuse.

Penny resigned from USA Gymnastics in March 2017 after initial reports alleged that the organization ignored the abuse allegations.

In the past, Penny has denied all accusations of a cover-up.

Nassar, who served as the doctor for the U.S. National Women’s Gymnastics Team, U.S. Olympic team and Michigan State University for two decades, pleaded guilty earlier this year to federal child pornography charges and 10 counts of criminal sexual conduct in Michigan state courts.

He was sentenced to 60 years in prison on federal child pornography charges and 300 years in prison on the state charges. More than 250 women and girls have accused Nassar of sexual abuse.

Penny is being held in Gatlinburg, awaiting extradition to Walker County, Texas.

D.C. United has announced that Chris Odoi-Atsem has been diagnosed with stage two Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

The 23-year-old defender is set to undergo four months of chemotherapy and sounded optimistic about his prognosis.

“I want to use my situation to raise awareness and help others in similar situations who are going through their own individual battles. This is only temporary, God will see me through and I will be back to where I’m supposed to be, on the soccer field,” Odoi-Atsem said of his diagnosis.

The University of Maryland product was drafted 12th overall in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft and has played sparingly for United in his two seasons with the club.

Odoi-Atsem has made 10 appearances (five starts) over two seasons, with injuries limiting him to just one appearance in 2018.

Kanye West has been pretty vocal about his displeasure of LeBron James joining the Los Angeles Lakers.

This week, West told TMZ that James should have stayed with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

“I feel like LeBron really needs to be in Cleveland,” West said. “And that ain’t my place, and I’m sorry, [Maverick Carter] and LeBron for saying, I know I’m speaking out of place. But, I feel like LeBron needs to be in Cleveland.”

James exercised his right to join the Los Angeles Lakers via free agency in July after playing for his hometown, Cleveland Cavaliers for a second stint the past four years.

James told ESPN in this summer that he was ecstatic to join the Lakers especially with Magic Johnson working in the Lakers’ front office. The three-time NBA champion stated that he looked up to the NBA Hall of Famer during his childhood. “I wanted to make no look passes like Magic. I wanted to get on the break and be Showtime like Magic.”

James’ move to Los Angeles is perfect synergy. He has multiple film projects pending like Space Jam 2.

Apparently, all of this chatter by Kanye and lateral moves by LeBron is all a plot to run for the Nation’s highest office, President of the United States in 2020, according to former NBA player, Rashad McCants.

According to McCants, the Los Angeles Lakers forward is preparing a run for President in the 2020 Presidential Election.

“He’s running for President,” Rashad McCants told Scoop B Radio.

Ironically, Rashad McCants is no stranger to Hollywood. Currently, a member of Ice Cube’s Big3 Basketball League, but McCants once dated Khloe Kardashian, Kanye West’s sister in law.

McCants once told the Charlotte Observer Newspaper that had he not dated Kardashian, he’d be “a $60–70 million player, easily.”

As for LeBron James?

“He’s gonna run against Kanye,” said McCants.

“I mean if I’m LeBron James, I already know that if I beat the Warriors, I can run for President. If he doesn’t beat the Warriors, he’s gotta run and hide for a few years. So this is the pressure he’s under. But I feel that if he can beat the Warriors, he can be President and he won’t have to play basketball ever again. He can just arrest all the Warrior players. I think that’s what he’s going for. He’s going to beat the Warriors and then have them all arrested after he’s President.”

Yesterday [September 25], was NBA Media Day in which all 30 teams endured lots of camera and reporters alike, questioning them about the predictions and goals they have for this upcoming season. Outside of Lebron being the main attraction after his big move to the Los Angeles Lakers other highlights included Trae Young’s transition from college ball to professional ball, and Kawhi’s laugh may just have been the biggest highlight of the day.

During Kawhi’s press interview he was answering a question that asked what he would like people to know about him. Kawhi went on to say, “I’m a fun guy. Obviously I love the game of basketball. It’s just more questions that you’d have to ask me in order for me to tell you about myself. I just can’t give you a whole spill. I don’t even know where you’re sitting at.”

Kawhi then followed up with the weirdest, most awkward, most robotic laugh ever seen before. In fact, Kawhi’s laugh became the talk of social media and the butt of everybody’s joke only invoking more laughs. Check out the video below.

Former Seattle Seahawks running back, Shaun Alexander is among the nominees of the 2019 Pro Football Hall of Fame Class. Shaun Alexander’s numbers and accomplishment speak for themselves, but are they good enough to land him in the Hall of Fame?

During his career, Alexander accumulated 9,453 total rushing yards, which slates him currently at 36th on the NFL’s All-time Rushing list. Alexander is currently tied with Adrian Peterson and Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk at 100 career touchdowns.

“Running backs are tough because of numbers. It all depends on the voters,” NFL Hall of Famer, Walter Jones tells sports reporter, Landon Buford.

Jones, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2014 was Alexander’s teammate from 2000-2008. The two would spend lots of time on the field too. Jones along with offensive linemen, Steven Hutchinson, Chris Gray, Robbie Tobeck, and Sean Locklear were the frontline that helped Alexander accumulate those career numbers. Alexander benefited from those linemen and achieved a ton of personal accomplishments on the gridiron, including being named to the 2000s All-Decade Team. The three-time Pro-Bowler also won the NFL’s MVP award in 2005 and was an intricate part of the Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl XL appearance in 2005, though they’d lose 21-10 to a Ben Roethlisberger-led Pittsburgh Steelers team.

Not winning that Super Bowl begs the question: Is Sean Alexander Hall of Fame worthy?

“It is a popularity thing as well nowadays,” Walter Jones also told Landon Buford.

Former NFL MVP running back Terrell Davis had a similar story, except he won some hardware. In fact, Davis won two Super Bowls with the John Elway-led Denver Broncos in 1998 and 1999. That distinction surely swayed voters.

And in the case of Alexander?

“He’s got a shot,” said sports analyst and Scoop B Radio Podcast host, Brandon Robinson. “Shaun Alexander put up solid numbers, was positive in the community and led the Seahawks to a Super Bowl. That man was on fire on that field! I’m pulling for him.”

Walter Jones thinks the voters and powers that be could possibly give his former Seattle Seahawks teammate the nod.

“I think from a media standpoint Shaun was a great guy,” said Jones.

It’s important to note the game of baseball could become a Paralympic sport in 2020. With this in mind, the Baltimore Orioles have done well to represent all members of their community. This includes the blind.

According to the  O’s, they are the first U.S. professional team to use Braille lettering on their game-day uniforms.

In fact, Baltimore city is home to the National Federation of the Blind’s (NFB) headquarters. The organization moved to the city 40 years ago.

Tuesday night against the Toronto Blue Jays, The home team celebrated the NFB’s 40 year anniversary at Camden Yards with a historic fashion statement.

Braille dots spelled out the word “Orioles” on the fronts of players’ jerseys, and the same style was used to signify players names on their backs

Fans received Braille alphabet cards at the ballpark.

Initially, the team planned to honor the NFB on July 26, in collaboration with the 28th anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act, but when they learned of their city’s rich history, they formalized an unprecedented approach.

Coupled with Braille uniforms and lineup cards, the O’s invited a blind concert pianist, Carlos Ibay, to sing the national anthem.  NFB President Mark Riccobono threw out the first pitch.

Riccobono admits throwing out the first pitch was “a little bit nerve-racking,” but he maintains it helped that he’d “done a lot of nerve-racking stuff” in his life.

“It really means a lot that the Baltimore Orioles are acknowledging [the anniversary], and not just in a way that says, ‘It’s nice to have you,’ but in a real way that’s authentic to blind people, by including Braille, which is the means that blind people use for literacy all across the world,” Riccobono said before the game.

Furthermore, he says when the team agreed to use the lettering on their uniforms, his organization thought it was “a fantastic idea” and suggested distributing the alphabet cards to help fans learn “what Braille is, and how to recognize the characters.”

All in all, we commend the Baltimore Orioles for being in tune with their city’s history and finding innovative ways to highlight diverse members of the community.

Michael Jordan made an announcement yesterday that he will donate $2 million to help those affected by Hurricane Florence in the Carolinas.

The NBA living legend, who played high school basketball in Wilmington, N.C., is donating $1 million each to the American Red Cross and the Foundation For The Carolinas’ Hurricane Florence Response Fund, according to a statement by the Charlotte Hornets. Jordan is the NBA team’s chairman.

“It’s truly devastating for me to see the damage that Hurricane Florence is doing to my beloved home state of North Carolina and to the surrounding areas,”

Jordan said in a statement earlier this week. “The recovery effort will be massive, and it will take a long time to repair the damage and for families to get back on their feet.”

Business and basketball staff from the Hornets are also partnering with the Food Lion grocery chain to pack meals for residents of affected cities in the Carolinas.

The Charlotte Hornets have also teamed up with the NBA’s merchandising partner to create “Carolina Strong” t-shirts, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Foundation For The Carolinas’ Hurricane Florence Response Fund.

The team announced its intention to raise money for Florence victims earlier this week, and has also set up a website through NBA Cares to raise money from fans.

While multiple professional football players have tried (to varying degrees of success) to put out Rap and Hip-Hop albums and famous football players have been mentioned in Hip-Hop lyrics, little to no music has been performed about fantasy football players and teams- until now.

Meet Roberto Cartagena, of SportLibs, who like many self-proclaimed fantasy football “experts,” loves to offer advice to others, but with a twist- and a beat. According to Cartagena, “SportsLibs combines sports, music and entertainment to give the best fantasy football advice in the form of a rap.” Each week, Cartagena offers advice about the upcoming week- who to draft, who to play, who to bench, and who to trade. Some of his week two advice included the following lyrics:

You gotta start Ben against the Chiefs
Even though last week, he threw 3 INTs
The best remedy
Is Kansas’s City D
It’ll probably be a shootout, start Mahomes
He’s already proven he can win on the road
Haden could be out, watch out for Cheetah
Now let’s talk RBs like Phillip Lindsay

For Cartagena, fusing his love of Hip-Hop and his love of fantasy football was a no-brainer – much to the delight of his internet fans as well as those who have seen him perform in person at SXSW this past year as well as at the National Fantasy Football Convention this past July in Dallas.

As far as how his fans feel about his projections? Overall, his advice for the 2017-2018 season was pretty solid. About two-thirds of his predictions were on point for week two. According to Cartagena, his advice has been pretty solid- even before he began to put it to a beat. “I’ve won countless of big money leagues throughout the years including both of my leagues last year with my unorthodox but proven way of drafting and use of the waiver wire. I also won over 6 figures in Draft Kings,” he says.

Whether or not Cartagena is truly the playoff prophet that can make fantasy managers win their league remains to be seen, but either way, his advice is sure to entertain if nothing else.

The mayor of a New Orleans suburb said Wednesday he is rescinding his order banning his city’s recreation department from purchasing Nike products for use at city recreation facilities.

Last week’s order in a memo from Mayor Ben Zahn came days after the athletic apparel maker began using former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick in an ad campaign. Kaepernick ignited a firestorm in 2016 when he began kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality and social injustice.

Zahn’s order had drawn strong criticism in and outside the city. Louisiana’s chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union had called for him to rescind it earlier Wednesday.

Issued quietly last week, Zahn’s memorandum last week said Nike products could not be purchased for use at the city’s recreation facilities. It also required the parks and recreation department director to approve all athletic purchases by booster clubs using their facilities.

Kaepernick’s name was never mentioned in the memo, nor did Zahn mention it in a Monday statement clarifying his position. In the statement Monday, Zahn said while he applauded Nike’s message of inclusion, the company was promoting a “political message” to sell shoes.

Protests of the move included a Monday evening rally by hundreds of people, including Cam Jordan, Terron Armstead and Craig Robertson of the New Orleans Saints’ football team. The Urban League of Louisiana questioned the legality of the memo and the ACLU on Wednesday said it violates the First Amendment.

Zahn was unapologetic at Wednesday’s news conference.

“My patriotism will not waiver,” he said. “But my focus needs to be on the city of Kenner and the many great projects we have in store for our city.”

Umpires are considering boycotting matches involving Serena Williams following her reactive behavior in Saturday’s US Open women’s singles final.

Officials are concerned at the treatment of Carlos Ramos after he handed Williams a game penalty in her defeat to Naomi Osaka and the lack of backing by the Portuguese has received in the aftermath.

They are “disturbed” by statements by both the WTA and the United States Tennis Association, and there is a certain appetite for action to be taken.

The International Tennis Federation has attempted to cool the situation, pointing out that Ramos was correct in his handling of the affair, which may go some way to diminishing a potential mutiny brewing among officials.

Ramos was accused of being a thief and a liar by Williams after he initially penalized her for receiving on-court coaching, she was fined $17,000 for the incidents and his fellow officials are keen on an apology from Williams.

Olympic gold medal sprinter Michael Johnson announced Saturday that he’s recovering after recently suffering a mini-stroke.

Johnson had what’s known as a Transient Ischemic Attack, or TIA, last week, he said in a Twitter post. The retired athlete is now at home with his family after doctors cleared him of cardiac issues. He’s expected to make a full recovery.

“It seems these things can affect anyone, even the once fastest man in the world!” he tweeted. “I’m no stranger to a good exercise plan and have thrown myself into it with my usual focus and determination. … I will be posting updates on my recovery often. Thanks for all the words of encouragement!”

A TIA is a temporary blockage of blood flow to the brain, according to the American Stroke Association. TIAs are often labelled mini-strokes because they can be relatively minor in terms of immediate consequences.

Since it doesn’t cause permanent damage, having a TIA is often ignored as no big deal, the stroke association said, however, it’s better viewed as a “warning stroke” because they could indicate a high likelihood of a more serious stroke.

The four-time Olympic champion, who will turn 51 on Sept. 13, was once the fastest man in the world at 200 meter and 400-meter races, reported BBC News, where he works as an expert track and field commentator.

Johnson participated in the Olympics three times, in 1992, 1996 and 2000. He was the first man to win both the 200 meter and 400-meter race at the same 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. He’s also won eight gold medals at the IAAF World Championships from 1991- 1999 and was elected into the United States Track and Field Hall of Fame in 2004.

Nike’s sales have reportedly increased ever since the debut of their controversial ad campaign starring Colin Kaepernick. Online sales increased by 31% during the holiday weekend according to reports by researcher, Edison Trends.

The rise in sales contradicts critics who urged people to boycott the sports brand because of their use of the former 49ers quarterback.

In 2016, the football star sparked a peaceful protest against police brutality by first sitting then kneeling during the National Anthem. Other players followed suit in a protest which divided the country and left the President of the United States, Donald Trump, big mad.

When Nike unveiled the 30th anniversary “Just Do It” campaign, people took their outrage to social media and began burning their existing apparel. They launched the hashtag, #JustBurnIt, a play on the company’s infamous slogan, which traded on Twitter along with #BoycottNike.

Former Philadelphia Eagles Linebacker Mychal Kendricks has been cut from his new team following charges against the NFL athlete. On Wednesday, Kendricks was charged for insider trading by the FBI. Hours later, the Super Bowl-winning athlete was released by the Cleveland Browns. Kendricks had signed a 1-year $3.5 million deal with the Browns.

According to reports, Kendricks allegedly profited more than $1 million “by using material non-public information from  [Damilare] Sonoiki, a banker at a global investment firm, to make investments during the period of July 2014 to March 2015,” according to NFL.com. Kendricks was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles during the time of the accusations. Reports say that Kendricks offered Sonoiki tickets to Eagles games in exchange for the inside information.

“Prior to signing Mychal, we were informed that there was a financial situation that he had been involved within 2014,” Browns General Manager John Dorsey said in a statement. “We were told Mychal had fully cooperated with investigators as a victim… Recently, we were provided an update on the matter and the circumstances have changed. We are now dealing with a different set of facts and the additional information we’ve gathered has led us to the decision to release Mychal from our team.”

In a public statement, Kendricks claimed responsibility for the crimes alleged against him and offered to repay the money he made through insider trading. “Four years ago, I participated in insider trading and I deeply regret it,” Kendricks said in the statement. “While I didn’t fully understand all of the details of illegal trades, I knew it was wrong and I wholeheartedly regret my actions.”

If convicted, Kendricks could serve a maximum 25 years in prison and a fine of more than $5 million.

JJ Redick spent four seasons with a Los Angeles Clippers team that once looked like it was poised to contend for NBA championships, but to say things never worked out would be an understatement. According to the veteran sharpshooter, immaturity was one of the biggest reasons for that.

Redick was a guest on the “Pardon My Take” podcast recently, and he was asked about the well-documented issues the Clippers had during his time there. He indicated there was some adolescent-style drama going on behind the scenes, though he had a different way of describing it.

“It was weird because separately everybody was really cool with each other, off the court everybody sort of got along. And then, there was just so much pettiness, it was just pettiness,” Redick said, as transcribed by Dane Carbaugh of NBC Sports. “It’s weird to think what we had the potential to accomplish and what ultimately derailed that was pettiness. Like, Donald Trump-level pettiness.”

Redick didn’t expound on the details of said pettiness, but it is one of the reasons why putting together All-Star rosters is such a dangerous proposition, as egos often clash and could become problematic in a matter of days.

The New York Jets have announced a new partnership with Def Jam Recordings. The deal marks a collaboration between two iconic New York brands, focusing on three main elements: music, content and in-game experience.

With the key role that music plays within the NFL and Def Jam’s commitment and passion for hip-hop culture, the partnership allows for the creation of exclusive, unique content and music surrounding the team.

“Through our partnership with Def Jam Recordings, we are looking to amplify our in-game experience and provide fans with entertaining content from their truly talented artists,” said New York Jets President Neil Glat. “In collaboration with this New York company that is recognized all over the world, we are excited to see what new and unique endeavors await our fans.”

As part of the new partnership, Def Jam will create a Jets Anthem to be heard during home games at MetLife Stadium. The custom track will be part of the pregame ritual as the team takes the field.

“Def Jam Recordings is a vital part of the cultural fabric of New York City,”

said Scott Greer, Executive Vice President, Marketing & Commerce, Def Jam Recordings. “Our artists are always on: whether making hit records, creating content or moving culture forward. Collaborating with another iconic New York brand like the New York Jets to create content and original in-game music has a natural synergy for our brand and our audience, and is a great way for Def Jam to bring fans of the Jets and hip-hop together and broaden the reach for our artists.”

A video content series will also be created, featuring the interaction between Def Jam artists and Jets athletes. The series will highlight the combination between the brands through various elements this season. The first video of this series will provide viewers with an exclusive look at second-year safeties Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye’s visit to Jadakiss’ studio in Yonkers, NY.

Additionally, Def Jam will provide the Jets with new music, along with classic hits from artists spanning their vast library to be used in weekly hype videos leading into game day. The hype videos will live on New York Jets social media channels throughout the season.

The form of protest during the national anthem was different for Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins, cornerback De’Vante Bausby and defensive end Michael Bennett, but the message remained the same as they continued to try drawing attention to social and racial injustices in the U.S. toward African Americans.

On Thursday, the three Eagles waited in the tunnel leading out to the field during the national anthem on Thursday night just before the Eagles faced the New England Patriots.

The NFL adopted an anthem policy in May that would allow players to stay in the locker room during the anthem in order to avoid a fine. But that policy is no longer in effect as the NFL and players’ association have been working on a new policy.

Last week, Jenkins and Bausby raised their fist, while Bennett stayed in the tunnel and came jogging out as the anthem was being played.

Before the game, Jenkins wore a T-shirt that read, “You Aren’t Listening”. That was written on a sign that Jenkins held up back on June 6 in response to President Donald Trump canceling the Eagles’ White House visit, saying that the Eagles aren’t patriotic.

As his recent feature on GQ makes perfectly clear, Jalen Ramsey doesn’t have a ton of good things to say about most NFL quarterbacks. The Jaguars’ star corner has an especially strong disdain for Buffalo Bills rookie Josh Allen.

Ramsey went ham on Allen on Twitter back in May. He’s now taken even more shots at the young QB, but this time he got to expound more on exactly what he finds so objectionable about Allen’s game.

The funny thing is Ramsey’s general feelings about Allen aren’t all that different than what the television talking heads were saying in the days and weeks leading up to the 2018 NFL Draft. Allen struggled with consistency and he wasn’t very good against better competition. Meanwhile, Baker Mayfield, Sam DarnoldJosh Rosen and Lamar Jackson — the other quarterbacks taken in the first round — had much better pedigree.

Allen took the high road and didn’t offer much of a response.

Allen will have to earn Ramsey’s respect before the corner gives it up. The young QB will have the opportunity to do so in Week 12 when the Jaguars visit Buffalo.

While some NFL players are willing to sacrifice everything to bring attention to social injustice, some are out to discredit the players’ efforts.  A South Beach police union urged their members to boycott the Miami Dolphins after several players protested during a preseason game.

The Miami Dolphins’ Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson defied the NFL’s new policy requiring players to stand during the national anthem and took a knee during the Star Spangled Banner to protest racial injustice and police brutality.

Following their game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Broward County Police Benevolent Association called on its union members and police officers in nearby counties to boycott ticket, merchandise and product sales from the team and the NFL.

“Anybody that disrespects the flag during the national anthem is personally offensive to me, having spent four years of my life — six months in the Persian Gulf — and having friends that have died while serving in the military,” Rod Skirvin, vice president of the Broward County Police Benevolent Association, told ABC News in a telephone interview Sunday. “That being said, I do not have a problem with peaceful protests, whatsoever, I also served in the military to preserve that right for people. I just feel that the forum that they are using to do that is extremely offensive to a large part of America.”

Worth noting, again: The ongoing anthem protests have absolutely nothing to do with the military, and in fact are a thoughtful expression of the very freedoms the troops are credited with preserving. The NFL season gets underway in a few weeks. The player protest controversy will be heading towards its third season with no ending in site. Some will call for a boycott while others will call for action.
