G-SHOCK is without a doubt the authority for dope timepieces that also utilize amazing tech specs. With the brand’s latest set of digital watches, the popular GA700 and GA800 models get reworked with a super clean, eye-grabbing gold finish.



The appropriately-titled Gold Accent Collection features a muted-out black base that allows for the gold & rose gold accents to really pop. With the GA700 models — the GA710B-1A9 comes in gold and the GA710B-1A4 in rose gold — feature a variety of cool built-in technology, including 200M water and shock resistance, five-year battery life and Hand retract function among other specs. The GA800 also has two offerings, with the GA810B-1A9 incorporating gold accents and the GA810B-1A4 getting the rose gold treatment. The iconic Kangol hat would be a part of hip-hop’s fashion Mt. Rushmore if such a thing existed, but long before breakbeats were ringing out over park jams and B-Boys were spinning on the cardboard, the British headwear company was creating a storied history of its own.

Sometime in the 1920’s World War I veteran Jacques Spreiregen began importing Basque berets from France as headwear for the military and workers and in 1938, the first of three major factories was opened as the manufacturing HQ for his own creation, Kangol (K from knitting, ANG from angora and OL from wool). By the time the second World War came around the company was the major supplier of berets to British troops and since then Kangol has been at the forefront of the headwear industry creating various timeless and classic pieces fit for any occasion as the distinct kangaroo logo graced products on the heads of everyone from The Beatles to Princess Diana including the entire English Olympic Team in the 1948 London Games Opening Ceremony.

Fast forward to the 1980’s and shift locations to the United States and its emerging hip-hop culture. As it has done time and time again, hip-hop has managed to take a fashion staple, add its own flair and swagger, then give it a whole new breath of life. From LL Cool J and his furry red ‘Bermuda Casual’ bucket hat to Slick Rick on the cover of The Rulers Back, the inner-city superheroes were influencing an entirely new counterculture for Kangol. In fact, UTFO’s Kangol Kid was the first rapper to formally be contracted to rep the brand.

Kangol has been on display in some of the most historic images of artists such as MC Shan, Notorious B.I.G and Missy Elliot and made its way into the film industry thanks to not only the constant wearing by Samuel L. Jackson (most famously as Ordell Robbie in Jackie Brown), but also Wesley Snipes rocking the top as Nino Brown in the cult classic, New Jack City. These rolls helped popularized the back to front style of the ‘504’. More recently Eminem has given life to the ‘Ripstop Army Hat’ thanks to his video clip for “Beautiful” and he was rarely seen without one for that entire era.

Kangol has managed to stay relevant for over three-quarters of century without succumbing to fads and trends, instead their products make and assist the styles of the times.

The talk of 2018 has undoubtedly been the performance of Beyoncé at Coachella, whose array of backup dancers were seen sporting a custom line of ‘Monty Berets’ that Bey’s styling team and Kangol came together to produce (which you can purchase online although not in the mustard yellow). Collaborations have always been a key element in the brands ability to seamlessly keep their popularity whilst crossing from one generation to the next.

South London based Steady Levels and Kangol came together in a partnership that saw a release of a limited edition t-shirt featuring a slightly edited graphic of the aforementioned The Rulers Back cover art to promote Record Store Day. Other notable recent collaborations with Disney, Alexander Wang, A-Life, SSUR, Stussy and Dutch streetwear powerhouse Patta have also kept the kangaroo bouncing around from head to head worldwide with no signs of slowing down to date.

Hip-hop and fashion have always had a hand-in-hand relationship.

Back in 1986, Run DMC pledged their allegiance to Adidas not only through song, but by declaration.  During a performance at the historic Madison Square Garden in New York, the Hollis duo were set to perform “My Adidas,” when group leader Run (now Rev. Run) asked the concert revelers to take their Adidas sneakers (shell toes probably) off and put them in the air. This request proved to be not only iconic, but lucrative for the rap legends. It further set the stage for artists in fashion, as more than consumers.  Fast forward over 30 years later,  you have Kanye West making history at the same MSG by deciding to live stream his latest Yeezy collection fashion show from a runway nestled in one of their main stages.

Fashion can almost be there 5th element of Hip-Hop. Way before rappers got paid to rock clothes or to make clothes, people embraced looking fly because that’s what it “was.” Take Brooklyn’s Lo-Life crew. Getting fly is their M.O. rap career or not. And what brand has for years been their “go to”? Ralph Lauren, Polo.

Amidst the dark and foggy New York nightlife of the 80’s often filled with drug dealers, prostitutes, pimps, stick up kids, addicts and con men was a crew of kids primarily from Brownsville (U.S.A. – United Shoplifters Association) and Crown Heights (Ralphie’s Kids) that adopted a uniform head to toe of Ralph Lauren. Tales of the crew, sometimes 30-40 deep, walking into a Ralph Lauren store and taking what they want then walking out became legendary and the posse earned a serious reputation in a short amount of time. They made such an impression and became such a talking point that they started influencing established rappers and slowly more and more MC’s and DJ’s began mimicking the style.

As the lines began to blur over who was and wasn’t an official member, several guys in the crew began to pursue the same music that they had helped stylize. The Lo-Life influence can be seen on the likes of Sean Price, DJ Clark Kent, Kanye West, Raekwon (“Same damn Lo sweater”), Just Blaze and hip-hop media personality Dallas Penn just to name a few. In fact if your memory is intact you will remember that Fabolous was originally called Fabolous Sport, a moniker paying homage to Polo Sport. After getting recognized as The Source Magazine’s “Unsigned Hype”, Thirstin Howl III aka the Polo Rican, who is infamous for wearing a Polo robe and slippers while doing a bid in prison, has gone on to drop 11 albums in a mixture of English and Spanish and worked with artists such as Eminem, Ol Dirty Bastard, Immortal Technique and Kool Keith. He’s also the main focal point of a new photography book called Bury Me With The Lo On shot by Tom Gould that explores the Lo-Life culture and movement.

Vice TV personality and frequent Action Bronson collaborator Meyhem Lauren isn’t shy about his Lo-Life affiliation on the track “Secret Angle” as he boasts the lyrics,

“Fine fabric delegate with a sneaker fetish/ stackin’ blood money, call it red leaf lettuce/ Polo kingpin, chief brethren, street legend”.

Meyhem has been catching attention with his work alongside DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill and Diggin’ In The Crates producer Buckwild as well as his bodying of various guest verses over the last few years. Spit Gemz is another name making noise with his articulate style of philosophical yet hardbody hip-hop who can be heard on tracks next to MC’s Tragedy Khadafi, Vinnie Paz of Jedi Mind Tricks, Chino XL, Kool G Rap and Blaq Poet, went in on his 2015 appearance on Sway In The Morning earning his spot as one of the undergrounds most talked about. Another stand out MC from this pocket of hip-hop is a young deep voiced wordsmith named Starker who is best known for his Juju (of The Beatnuts fame) produced street banger “Starker X Juju”. You may remember The Source article on his 2015 release The Dutch Masterpiece well, he’s been busy since then with the Lo.Ceasar EP – a collaboration with YL and his latest offering The Bootleg Collection. Starker’s music is unapologetically New York and follows a sound path laid down by pioneers like Mobb Deep, Nas, Cormega, AZ etc. with smooth flows laced with authentic street references that will take several plays through to completely digest.

Over 30 years deep and New York’s Lo-Life’s are just as active and influential in hip-hop than ever before as proven by the re-release of the infamous “Snow Beach” pullover that Raekwon wore in the timeless “Can It Be All So Simple” video clip as well as the Lo-Life staple ‘92 Stadium Series’ which caused chaos amongst streetwear aficionados upon its drop with Supreme and Jordan-esque lineups and campouts to cop it. Although the company has never formally thanked Thirstin, the Lo-Life’s or hip-hop in general for all the heavy lifting on the marketing front, the re-release of these two lines certainly means that they have their ear to the street. Polo, a brand that is conventionally seen as upper-class colonizer attire and hip-hop, straight from the crack era – together they remain as the original rap odd couple that organically works. A lot of rappers can wear Polo, but only a select few can be Lo-Lifes.

Kanye West has finally come out with a line that fans have all been waiting for.

Recent reports have revealed that Yeezy released spring/summer foot apparel that is now available for around $150. Now, fans can cop Yeezy season slides termed “Grey Flatform Slippers” which were available for sale on retailer Browns Fashion. The new slides have not appeared in any official YEEZY season communication or even runway presentations, but simply appeared out of the blue just like the Yeezy Season 6 boots that came last week.

The Yeezy slides feature a moulded footbed, a wide forefoot strap with fabric hook and loop fasteners in an open toe style which comes in a grey colorway. Currently, most sizes have sold out, but they will be restocked in the next few days.

On the Browns Fashion site, the shoes are described as youthful with a funny story attached that reads “Now apparently, according to some scientists who really should have more pressing concerns, women look their oldest at 3:30pm on Wednesdays. This is alarming because today is Wednesday. We suspect the only cure for it is to offset ageing with the undeniable youthful effect of these YEEZY shoes.”

Fans who want the same youthful glow will have to stay on the lookout in the next few days.

For the first time ever, INIFD and the London School of Trends presented a runway showing during New York Fashion Week on February 11th at famed NYFW location Pier 59.

The showing dubbed “Vibrant India FW18”, is the brainchild of the students at the fashion institutions who created collections over the course of a semester that reflected thought-provoking construction and aesthetic with New York sensibility. Capturing the spirit of India with students coming from diverse backgrounds, they focused on fall winter trends while embracing a certain and exciting 2018 season.

Overseen by fashion editor and celebrity stylist James R. Sanders, the students created 60 garments – including both women’s and menswear that reflected their own personal narratives while being inspired by the great city of New York.

“I’m incredibly proud of the students. Not only are they talented, but they are driven fashion people who are certain to take the industry by storm,”
said Sanders.

Vibrant India speaks to the movement, weaves, draping, and all that is unique about Indian textiles. Vibrant colors with rich deep hues and fabrics reflect a one-of-a-kind craftsmanship that makes India a powerhouse source for fashion and goods.

Having shown during London Fashion Week consistently, the students are no strangers to producing collections under pressure and with tight deadlines, but New York is of course its own fashion machine. Collections have been covered by several press outlets including Vogue, Glamour, GQ, and Huffington Post.

On Wednesday, global fitness lifestyle brand Reebok joined forces with international rapper and brand partner Lil Yachty to host an unforgettable fashion and music experience celebrating the iconic Reebok Workout Plus sneaker and Reebok’s ‘Always Classic’ campaign. The evening was a living representation of the eclectic culture upon which the Reebok Workout Plus was built, and featured a look into Reebok’s storied brand archive, a live musical performance by Lil Yachty, a dance performance by Meechie and Toosi and a fashion presentation curated by stylist Rox Brown.

Known for his unique style sensibilities and his ability to draw inspiration from the past to remix daring and bold looks for the present day, Lil Yachty brought to life the Workout’s versatility by fusing music, attitude and style.

Held at Manhattan’s Classic Car Club, guests were treated to an experiential journey through the Workout Plus’ unique heritage. Lil Yachty joined his stylist, Rox Brown, and members of his ‘Sailing Team,’ JBans2Turnt and Kodie Shane, for a deeper look into what goes into their unique style choices. Rox demonstrated how to pair nostalgic style staples with the Workout, creating head-to-toe looks that stand out in today’s fashion landscape.

Some of the other notables in attendance were female rap queen Remy Ma, Power actor Rotimi and Luka Sabbat of Grown-ish.

Earlier this year, Reebok Classic revealed its Spring/Summer 2018 campaign, “Always Classic,” that celebrates the brand’s most disruptive and authentic style pioneers – challenging them to step up to the global stage to define what “Always Classic” means to them. Level up on your fashion game and hit the streets with these sneakers that are equal parts cool and geeky. NBA star Paul George has announced his collaboration between the gaming brand and Nike: the ‘PG-2 PlayStation’ colorway.

In a post on the Sony PlayStation blog, George mused about the opportunity, saying, “Just like basketball, I’ve had a knack for video games since I was a kid… This collaboration has been a long time coming.”

“Ask me what my favorite PlayStation memory is and I’ll tell you it’s when my dad got me a PS2 for Christmas. I’d been dropping hints left and right because I knew that was it. That was the next big thing.”

Created by Nike designer Tony Hardman, the shoes are inspired by the PlayStation’s DualShock 4 controller and pay homage to some of the PlayStation’s iconic symbols.

Mirroring what it would look like to switch on the console, the shoe’s tongues—which feature the Paul George and PlayStation logos—light up and pulsate in blue. The lights don’t require charging; they’re battery-powered and will run for roughly 150 hours.

The back of the left shoe contains a unique barcode that holds a PSN voucher code, which can be unlocked at the PlayStation Store to redeem a ‘Paul George Dynamic’ PS4 theme.

Reebok just revealed their Always Classic campaign in honor of their Spring/Summer 2018 collection.

Reebok’s widespread unveiling caters to the brand’s Franchise Four collective styles which include the Freestyle Hi, Classic Leather, Club C and Workout Plus. To represent the quintessential essence of these particular silouhettes, Reebok united audacious style icons Lil Yachty, Rae Sremmurd, Teyana Taylor, Ariana Grande and GiGi Hadid to pioneer the campaign movement at it’s core of encouraging self expression and embracing nonconformity.

Todd Krinsky, General Manager of Reebok Classics, stated —

Now a new image has surfaced, this time showcasing the adidas Kamanda decked out to represent the villainous Majin Buu. The Kamanda is crafted from mostly suede and rubber and features hits of Majin Buu’s pink, purple and yellow colors on the upper body.

According to sources the Dragon Ball Z x adidas collaboration is slated for a Fall 2018 release. It is also believed a shoe for the characters Mr. Popo, Yajirobe, Tenshinhan and Mr. Satan are also in the works. Stay tuned for more info on this collab.

Local Brooklyn artist, Pierre Jean- Baptiste, started off the New Year by posting a video from Diddy and son, Justin Combs admiring his work out in some exotic location.

Revolt and Power 105.1 correspondent Joed Esperance bought one of Pierre’s art work as a gift for Diddy. In the piece, you can see bold statements like “Faith Without Work is Dead”, “Create Like a God, Command Like A King”, “Black Excellence” and “DNA= Royalty”. These phrases that denote spiritual power, of course, was right up Puff’s alley. Here is the work of art.

28 year-old Pierre is a Haitian American artist from Brooklyn, New York who had his first showcase titled The Vagabond in NYC early December 2017. The exhibit was successful and it looks like Pierre has a great year ahead of him. This work reminds many of another Haitian artist that many rappers love, Jean-Michel Basquiat!

Last month, Future released his first signature sneaker with Reebok – the Furykaze, in a Sandstone colorway. The Furykaze is a nice mix of the Instapump Fury and the Kamikaze II. Reebok has officially released a new colorway for the
sneaker in “Triple Black”. The sneaker will be made available at multiple retailers.

The Scorpion (Future’s astrological sign) inspires the rapper’s signature sneaker. The sneaker’s upper features a suede texture inspired by the hair on a scorpion’s tail, claws and legs, while the molded vamps resemble the ribbed body.
The heel collar also offers the flexibility of a scorpion’s tail, which makes it easy to
wear.

The collaboration between Supreme and North Face continues to collaborate with their new collection which set to drop before the end of year. The latest collab between the two partnerships will feature a wide range of winter ready gear as well as numerous amounts of accessories that are one-of-a-kind.

The newest North Face and Supreme collaboration line will consist: a baltoro jacket, two mountain parkas, crewneck sweatshirts, short sleeve t-shirts, six panel hats, nuptse blankets and an expedition backpack. With insulation, it will feature a waterproof nylon for tough weather conditions. You’ll be reminded of if you on some large snowy mountains in the North East up in the peaks in North America.

The upcoming release of North Face and Supreme winter 2017 collection will mark the collaborative drop of the year with both of the brands. This collection will be available at Supreme stores in New York, Los Angeles, Paris and London starting Thursday, November 30!

‘The Moment’ is a Champs Sports franchise that provides a platform for professional athletes and musicians to share inspirational stories rooted in their personal journeys to success through musical collaborations. Champs Sports has now launched the latest installment of their ‘The Moment’ franchise which spotlights recording artist Tory Lanez and Philadelphia 76ers basketball star Joel Embiid.

Episode six features Tory who can be seen performing his exclusive new single “The Process,” alongside Embiid in a music video-style production. The video focuses on Embiid and his journey from his hometown of Yaoundé, Cameroon to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to his ascent into the NBA. Starting off on a local basketball court in the city of brotherly love, Champs Sports connected with Embiid to discover the process of creating his own path. He shares his honest insight into his rise to stardom, the unexpected loss of his younger brother, experiencing injury and rehab, and becoming a hometown hero.

In 2015, Adidas considered Los Angeles one of the most influential cities around the world as apart of their global business strategy. Now the Germany based brand has announced they will be opening a world class office in Los Angeles at the beginning of 2018.

The sportswear brand has strategically planned to put more emphasis on their North America efforts, sales, and marketing overall. Although they are a considered a successful brand internationally, Adidas has chosen to target the American market specifically in hopes to expand tremendously. America’s major influence on other countries in regards to entertainment, fashion and sports is recognized by the brand. Therefore, they hope that same influence will infiltrate fashion and sports markets around the world to make Adidas the premiere sportswear brand amongst their competitors.

In an interview with CNN, Mark King, the president of Adidas North America, stated:

If we’re going to really be the company we want to be, and really be the brand we want to be, we have to really do better in America.

Adidas’ new world class office will be located in Downtown Los Angeles’ revitalized urban arts district, the ROW DTLA, occupied by retail stores, restaurants, and creative offices. They emphasize that this new office space is a collaboration hub for creatives open to consumers, athletes, and influencers, alike.

Under Armour just released Stephen Curry’s highly anticipated fourth signature shoe, Curry 4. The newest shoe is designed to offer more traction, comfort and all-around control and comes in black, white and gray. It’s cross-concentric circles on the outsole provide more grip to a court’s surface, the sock-like construction and the knitted collar provide a close fit, and the speed plate running down the shoe provides stability.

Curry was involved in each step of the design process, and worked closely with Senior Design Manager Kort Neumann. A nice personal touch to the shoes’ aesthetic includes the famous biblical verse – Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things.”

Curry 4 is available for pre-order on Under Armour’s site for $130.

Travis Scott is linking up with Nike, to release an Air Force 1  Low collaboration.

La Flame and Nike announced the collabo today as apart of the 35th anniversary of the sportswear giant. Senior Creative Director at Nike Sportswear, Al Baik, explained to Nike how he teamed up with Travis and spoke about the shoe’s design:

When we first met with Travis, the first thing he said was, ‘I’m the acid of rap.’ It was a prompt to take a classic but then really trip it out. We brought this idea to life by making the binding around the canvas reflective, so when it hits light, it reflects various colors. At first glance, it’s seemingly one color, but at a different angle, it has layers and depth to it. To mix up the look, the swoosh is Velcro and comes with three different articulations of the Swoosh. Customizable patches are based on his label artwork, and the dubrae is comprised of Travis’ grill.

Along with tapping into La Flame, Nike released collaborative projects with Don C, Kareem “Biggs” Burke, Errolson Hugh and Virgil Abloh. Nike and Travis Scott’s Air Force 1 Low will be available on Sat., Dec. 2, at select Nike retailers.

Just In Time for Tip-off, Russ is honored by the Mountain Dew family…

During the summer, Mountain Dew announced that they would honor brand athlete and NBA MVP Russell Westbrook with a truly unique fashion outfit for his wardrobe which is the first ever Triple-Double Breasted Suit. And right before tip-off of the 2016-2017 NBA season, the suit has arrived.

Created by American menswear designer Mark McNairy, the Triple-Double Breasted Suit pays homage to Russ’ record breaking season and “Don’t Do They” mentality – whether on the court dropping 50 point triple doubles, or off the court in his many stylish fits.

The suit includes several unique style elements that pay tribute to his historic campaign, including:

  • Don’t Do They: Russ’ iconic rallying cry from his ASW commercial is featured on the underside of the jacket collar as a bold “THEY” crossed out in red
  • 42: Russ’ season-defining tripe double record is emblazoned on the jacket breast pocket
  • Shot clock with 1 second left: Russ was a king in the clutch; to highlight this, :01 is shown on the inside breast pocket
  • Camo Pattern: DEW has a history with camo as does McNairy which made camo an obvious color choice.

Don C is back with the Luxury Just Don basketball shorts…

The guy behind all the luxury branded street-wear basketball shorts is back and ready to defend his throne as one of the best designers out there. Don C has teamed up with Jordan Flight yet again to release a collaboration that will feature luxury basketball shorts. This will be the first collegiate collaboration for the Just Don and Jordan Brand.

Coming equipped with a flight short collegiate collection that features shorts from Marquette, Michigan and North Carolina. An all-black pair is also featured within the collection and is not linked to any school that we would know of. An official all-black pair is always needed for a collection.

Inspired by a team of NYC bike messengers, Season 2 of adidas Originals by Alexander Wang is set to drop this week. “Fueled by adrenaline and excess” said the Three Stripes in a statement, the pairs second attempt at a collab is full of bright neon coloring.

The athletic wear apparel collection is made up of cycling jerseys, hoodies, T-shirt, leggings and shorts all decorated with not only adidas branding but Alexander Wang tagging. As for footwear slides, mid top runners and skate sneakers all make an appearance in the campaign images.

Season 2 will arrive on Alexander Wang’s official website and select stores globally this October 7.
