Grammy nominated rapper Rapsody sat down with Fat Joe‘s Coca Vision Podcast on Tidal to discuss her career to this point. As her buzz continues to grow following the Grammy nomination for her 2017 album ‘Laila’s Wisdom’ Fat Joe felt it necessary to have the lyricist on his podcast as he tells her he only invites people who “meet the qualifications.”

Rapsody spoke gratefully about her development as a rapper and being able to work with hip-hop legends like 9th Wonder and Young Guru.

“[9th Wonder] was the one that when i first started writing my first two records, he told me I had talent,” The ‘Power’ MC told Fat Joe. “He took me under his wing from day one and he taught me people that I missed growing up that came before me like it’s always a bit of knowledge. He taught me the science of emceeing.”

The interview took place before the Grammy awards took place, but Rapsody expressed to Joe her excitement in being nominated but not taking it hard if she didn’t win this year.

“That’s why I’m so excited for this year, not even just for me but for the culture,” she said. “I’m looking at the nominations and like all these nominations are tough so whoever wins I can’t even mad because I feel like the culture is represented in a positive way.”

Rap did not win any of the three Grammy awards she was nominated for.

The ‘Sassy’ MC emerged from the underground in 2015 as the only rap feature on Kendrick‘s Grammy award winning album, To Pimp A Butterfly. The North Carolinian was featured on the track “Complexion” and when asked why he chose Rapsody to be the only rap feature, Kendrick said it was never about the names for who he puts on tracks, but about the talent.

Conor McGregor is letting it be known he wants back in the octagon.

Just hours after UFC President Dana White told TMZ he would strip Conor of his Lightweight title, McGregor announced that he will be fighting again and had even offered to step in at UFC 222 when Max Holloway pulled out of his fight against Frankie Edgar.

White had previously told TMZ Sports that the upcoming fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson at UFC 223 in April would be for the title McGregor currently holds. However, McGregor says he’ll be fighting again and that “It is on them to come and get me. Because I am here.”

McGregor is taking his time to return to UFC simply because he made more money in an exhibition boxing match then he would in any UFC match.

McGregor has not fought in the UFC since November 2016 when he beat Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title at UFC 205. He is 21-3 with 18 victories by way of knockout in his 24 career UFC fights.

With his impending return, the UFC could use his star power to rejuvenate the MMA world.

Quavo’s impressive all-star celebrity game debut last week, may land him a 10 day contract with an NBA team. Okay, it’s a long shot, and he may not have the time for the demand it takes to play in the NBA, but Huncho’s got game.  He finished with 19 points and MVP honors.

According to former BET host, current Atlanta Hawks music director and radio personality, Big Tigger, he believes that Quavo can provide some offensive help for a struggling Hawks team.

“Quavo was out there balling like his life depended on it,” said Tigger. “I think we should give Quavo a 10 day. I don’t know if he can play any defense, bu the can get us a couple buckets.”

Quavo stands at about 5’9″ and is most likely less than 200 pounds. If he were to compare to any current NBA player, it would most likely be Lakers guard, Isaiah Thomas. Thomas is a prolific scorer, averaging 29 points per game for the Celtics last season, but is a liability on defense because of his small frame. Not to mention, he is also left handed, like the Migos front man. With guys like Thomas scoring the ball, there is hope for Quavo to play a game or too.

Of course Hucho didn’t go up against supreme NBA talent during the celebrity game, but the possibility is quite entertaining. Watch Quavo’s MVP highlights of the game below.

For the very first time, CoverGirl has unveiled their latest beauty campaign “I Am What I Make Up,” which features Amy Deanna, a model with vitiligo from Texas. Vitiligo is a skin condition caused by a lack of melanin, a pigment in the skin, which results in white patches appearing on the body.

This is not CoverGirl’s first time stepping outside of society’s comfort zone.

In 2016 blogger Nura Afia became the brand’s first Muslim ambassador, followed by blogger James Charles who became their first male spokesmodel in the same year. Deanna feels blessed and proud to be able to raise awareness for the condition while showing people that they can be comfortable in their own skin and still be different without conforming to the beauty standards set by society.

“Vitiligo awareness is something that is very important to me. It’s a part of my identity, but it doesn’t define who I am… For there to be so many of us and so little representation, it’s truly disheartening. I work with CoverGirl; I’m a black woman; I have vitiligo.” Deanna told People Style.

Why don’t school shootings occur in the ‘hood’? A question which has circulated around social media since the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida.

The incident left 17 students dead and 14 wounded after 19-year old, Nikolas Cruz opened fire. He has since been booked on 17 counts of premeditated murder.

Many believe gun control is the main issue, but if gun control is the problem, why don’t these incidents occur in inner-city schools?

There aren’t enough stats, to say why definitively. Regardless, lets talk about it. Schools in rural areas are different, in comparison to urban schools. Typically, rural students are majority white, coming from a two parent homes and they attend large schools with minimal security.

In contrast, urban schools are typically majority black or non-white, with multiple schools sharing one building. Students come from single parent homes or they live with relatives other than their parents.

For the sake of discussion, lets say both rural and urban students have equal access to guns. However, even Cardi B can attest to the criminalization of urban students. In a recent Instagram post which reads: “Ya wanna know whats the problem? That the government only put metal detectors in schools in the Hood!”

Why are these students viewed as a threat? Why are their bodies heavily policed? Yet these mass school shootings don’t happen in the hood.

We must closely examine our culture and society. Typically, school shooters tend to be loners and social outcast who have no place to belong to to. Now this doesn’t mean only rural students can be loners or outcast. However, when you come from the hood, even if you have no friends at school: you still feel a sense of connection to your neighborhood.

The problems that each race faces in their environment–differ which means where and how crimes are committed differs as well. While a white child may be angry over an impending divorce, parents lack of attention or losing a resource they’ve become accustomed to. These issues are common place in the black community. As a result, a black child is more likely to worried about going to bed hungry. So school can be a place of refuge, at least they can eat. They may be escaping the roaches and mice which can come along with living in the hood.

Also there a difference in mentality. If two black students get into a problem at school, they will usually fight a couple times before gunplay. If it escalates to gunplay, the problem stays between them, with an intended target. Furthermore, incidents occur outside, away from school.

Lastly, as a whole, we need to reevaluate how we handle and diagnose childhood anger, majority of school shooters have a history of prescribed psychoactive drugs. Are these drugs really treating the issue or are they simply pacifying it?

The truth of the matter is, social isolation/ feelings of rejection, coupled with a violent streak or anger issues can produce a school shooter.

Join the conversation–what’s your opinion?

Netting $404 million in profits since its release, Marvel’s Black Panther has become a cultural experience. The film goes beyond Wakanda and the story of King T’Challa. The film brings issues of social awareness, representation, and inclusion to the forefront of popular culture. Therefore, the Movement for Black Lives, is hosting voters registration at Black Panther screenings.

If we can show up in record numbers for a movie, we all should all have that same energy at the polls on election day.

The movement’s Electoral Justice Project encourages the black community to fight for their rights through the use of electoral strategy. Lead by the “Wakanda the Vote” campaign, which began following the release of the film–the movement hopes all community members are present during the 2018 midterm elections.

Especially considering the hate America harbors in her heart after Trump‘s first year in the White House.

According to their website: Movement For Black Lives is an assortment of individuals and collectives which aim to focus on a, “hopeful and inclusive vision of Black joy, safety, and prosperity.”

Furthermore, they stand against violence, economic inequality. Also willing to help others pursue their dreams. The organization believes the Marvel Film is in perfect alignment with their principles. Hence, movie screenings doubled as good place to register to vote.

Using Twitter to get their message out to the world. With a simple text, you can register to vote. Most importantly, with a simple text, you can host your own voters registration event.

Registration occurs before and after screenings, making movie-goers inclined to use the power of their vote to inspire change.

Everyone who has seen the Black Panther is captivated by depiction of blacks in their natural royal state, as well as the technologically advanced nation of Wakanda. They also unite under the #WakandaForever phrase.

However, unless we take the necessary steps to achieve “our Wakanda,” this is just a movie. So if you’ve seen the film, keep that same energy for election day. Be the change or don’t complain.

Ladies get your silk bonnets and fellas get the durags and scarves ready because Tami Roman and Snoop Dogg are teaming up for a late night comedy show.

If you follow Roman, she’s taken social media by storm with her #BonnetChronicles, as she discusses hot topics that include, but are not limited to news and entertainment. Recently, the Basketball Wives came for Kanye West in her chronicles where she determined his black card had been revoked due to Kim Kardashian’s latest break the Internet moment. Snoop Dogg responded to her video with, “I got my scarf on. When we gon’ have a one on one talk about the sh*t we keep seeing?”

Now the two are getting a chance to make audiences laugh together. Tentatively titled Get Into It….Forizzle, the pair will be rocking their bonnet and scarf respectively as they discuss topics in pop culture, celebrity interviews and performances, as well as sketch comedy.

The show will be produced by Snoop and his wife, Shante Broadus, Jill Ramsey and Tami Roman and co-executive produced by Ernest Dukes and Danika Berry.

After winning Best International Male Solo Artist, Kendrick Lamar faced some technical difficulties during his BRIT Awards performance on Wednesday, leaving audience members and viewers at home confused and concerned. Kendrick began his performance by lying on top of a glass box with a car inside, that eventually got smashed. As the music began, it appeared to stop and start creating a loop effect for a couple of minutes.“It sounded like the music wouldn’t play properly,” one source added. Later, he returned to the stage to perform “Feel” and “New Freezer,” a collab with Rich The Kid.

Oh but of course, social media had to share their opinions. “Has Kendrick Lamar fallen asleep?” one fan wrote, and another added, “Just lying on a car, it’s Kendrick Lamar!”

This week the documentary, Agents of Change, dropped for a limited time on PBS (2/20, 2/21, 2/24 & 2/25) and chronicles the events at San Francisco State in 1968 and at Cornell University in April, 1969, where Black students demanded that the administrations of these places of higher learning give them freedom to be Black Inteligencia without compromise.

While watching this, one is reminded of when author Virginia Woolf wrote, “There is no gate, no lock, no bolt that you can set upon the freedom of my mind” in her book, A Room of One’s Own.  Of course, her context is 1929 post-war Europe and she is looking through the lens of a feminist, young white woman, so she couldn’t possibly fathom what these students’ reality might be. But in theory she is “correct. ” The boundless horizon that your mind can traverse is infinite. While your mind is free, there are tools that can leave it in shackles. Black students in this documentary (and across this country) know this reality too well.

This is the crux of this film. Many Americans can boast immigrating to this land of “Milk and Honey” in pursuit of a better life, most Black and Brown people cannot. Their maafa experience (highlighted by enslavement and exploited labor) was forced, and it reduced the dignity of their transplantation to these shores. Black folk weren’t welcomed with the promise that this new world offered. They considered these people beasts upon arrival, thus their minds were of no value nor could it exercise freedom lest it hurt itself. They believed that the African — and other non-white people were unteachable and that their cultures were not substantive. The “theys” were wrong. Agents of Change as an educational tool displays what students did to show them that they were wrong.

Black students used their minds to demand the respect that equity yields.

The film shows how one of the reasons the movement had to be done by young people is because their parents clung to notions of assimilation as a device of survival. Blend in. Don’t cause trouble. Look at King. This un-tutoring of the Black psyche was necessary but with the urgency of the work at hand in San Francisco and at Cornell, the youth with their Shango Spirit of Emancipation had to move covertly and swiftly. Indeed, elders offered wisdom and history, but were so conditioned by the lash (literal and figurative) that they resigned to being intellectual second tier thinkers. History proves that our children passed on that juice and created a well throughout movement (coupled with slight force) to push for their seats at the table.

This excellently researched film explores how these thinkers recruited students to predominantly white colleges, specifically San Francisco State, and then nurtured students to be the best citizens in the space without neglecting their Black identities. They founded the Black Student Union organizations and worked with out people of color (Asians, Latinos, Indigenous) to found their own. These Black students (and the instructors that advised them) also pushed and developed a Black studies department.

At the BSU offices, they made connection with people that would become heroes many now read in history books or study in social studies… they are also in many ways your favorite rappers mentors: Sonia Sanchez, Amiri Baraka, Danny Glover and then a loose association with The Balk Panther party.  Producers of Agents of Change have rescued the term, Black Power.  It shows how layered the movement was: How socially and academic was two different things, two different methodology but all reaching the same goals.

These students’ goal was to create curriculum that spoke to them with dignity and with real historical accuracy about the African diaspora, Black faculty to teach this curriculum, benefits and increase Black student enrollment.

Agents of Change, as a tool, is needed in every school, in every city, in every state. The Civil Rights movement is often colored as Blacks only operation. Just as the thought that Black Power movement at San Francisco State was a violent activation, prompted by the Black Panther party. It was not. It was a joint movement with students and teachers. That myth was fueled by then governor Ronald Reagan who suggested that this protest was the countries own Vietnam. He fanned flames that he himself created. He took the college students and placed their prison, trying to shackle their minds.

The doc shows how students stepped up to make a change. Two years later, multiple after incarceration of students, after many nights of blood, sweat and tears, the protest ended and these students won what is considered the equivalent of Brown vs. The Board of Ed for the university level.  And schools in 2018 reap the benefit.

When the documentary shifts to movement on Cornell’s campus, the focus was on the social dynamics of race inside of academia. The sense was that the sole purpose of Black people being in Cornell was to teach Whites how to get along with people of color. One interesting note is that some students we reported for smoking marijuana, because their white counterparts did not identify the smell of Black hair being pressed. Even teachers talked about how Black women were promiscuous by nature. This prompted these Black women to move off campus to create a space that would be safe for them, this flushed them square into the community. But the straw that broke the backs of these students were that Blacks had made no contribution to the world, historically or economically. This prompted their move to creating Black Studies on the campus. Like San Francisco, they organized and work to make this a reality- against staunch resistance including the burning of crosses in front of the Black women’s lodging during parent’s weekend at the school. The question…. why target the Black women to stop the movement?

The cross burning happened early in the morning (3:00am), before classes the Black students united under the Afro-American Society (AAS) banner sprang into full swing, starting the first major racial demonstration of the campus. It was called “The Takeover.” Cornell had officially joined the ranks of many of the Black students at PWIs across the country. They had to take over.

Agents of Change gives a history lesson on how Black students found their voice, and lifted their minds to do so.

Any comic book aficionado will tell you Heath Ledger (RIP) stepped up to the massive clown shoes laid out by Jack Nicholson. Now the question is “Did Michael B. Jordan take the proverbial baton and stretch the villain role that much further?”

Blerds online (black nerds) are unanimously applauding Jordan’s “Killmonger” interpretation as the best villain in the Marvel Comic Universe. Like Ledger’s Joker figure, he is a polarizing character, that asks us deep questions that we have been ignoring for years. While Ledger’s Joker made us confront the evils in society, Jordan’s Killmonger makes us weigh Wakanda’s place in the African Diaspora. They are bad guys that tho evil in their intent, we understand their motives and in the end find their movies somewhat justifiable.

Spoilers ahead…

We have to admit that Erik Killmonger, was wronged. When King T’Chaka killed his father for allowing Wakanda to be robbed and terrorized to pay for Vibranium to fund his missions against white supremacy, it was messed up. He left that kid without a father in Compton, California…enough said. We can even argue that Killmonger’s father Prince N’Jobu (brother of T’Chaka) was also a Black Panther for using militant actions to fight white supremacy in America, arguing that Wakanda is responsible for not giving their African brethren the means to fight their oppressors. Yet N’ Jadaka (Erik’s royal Wakandan name) still rose up from the ghetto to graduate from military high school, gains access to MIT, and become a black ops badass.

He had a mission, right the wrongs done to him, “by any means necessary.” We understand his angst and inner turmoil when he turned to Angela Bassett’s queen mother character and shouted, “Hey Auntie.” As we watched Heath Ledger slice through Bruce Wayne’s Gotham like a precision knife, we got what he was doing, proving that anyone could have, “one bad day.” That humans as a society were flawed. Let’s not forget it took “Deebo” from the Friday Movies to have the strength of character even as prison inmate not to blow up the other boat.

Black Twitter is confirming Jordan’s legendary 3peat status to A list actor. (We all admit that Fantastic Four wasn’t his fault so we are just going to pretend it didn’t happen). But he’s a special kind of Villain, the one that we root for. For any black that has been called a “nigger” we all wonder what it would have been like if we had a vibranium suit and some hi-tech panther claws in our back pockets. For African-Americans, we stand in awe of MLK Jr.’s and Malcolm X’s bravery, to stand in the spotlight, at the forefront of the offensive, no bulletproof vest (sorry 50 Cent) and say, “We shall NOT be moved.” We all shook in our seats when Killmonger uttered,

“Bury me in the ocean with my ancestors who jumped from ships, cause they knew death was better than bondage.”

Prince N’Jadaka, was cunning, ruthless, totally jacked T’Challa up in ritual combat, not to mention was manically driven yet unstoppable in pursuing his goals. Plus every guy secretly heard girls sigh with joy when when Jordan ripped off his shirt to reveal muscles and ritual kill tattoos. Step for step he was a match for the Black Panther, his dialogue with T’Challa mirrored the scene where Christian Bale’s Batman went head to Ledger as The Joker. The famous interrogation scene, that even when all seemed to be lost for the villain, he could not be broken, his focus blurred, his mind changed. Their banter forever burned into the cinema of the mind. When it comes time for best supporting actor next Oscar season, Michael B. Jordan, better NOT be left off the ballot.

WWE superstar  Apollo Crews is dropping the last name and will simply be known as “Apollo.”

The name drop is the WWE’s way of distancing themselves from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooter.

According to Sportskeeda, the WWE star dropped his last name because it sounds too similar to that of Nikolas Cruz, who killed 17 people last week in one of the deadliest school shootings in American history.

Based on an email sent by WWE officials, the decision was made at the executive level. WWE CEO Vince McMahon reportedly never wants to hear Cruz’s surname again. And while the two spellings are different, they’re similar enough to erase Apollo’s last name from his biography on the company’s website.

Considering WWE opened Raw on Monday night with a moment of silence for the victims of the Parkland shooting, and NXT wrestler Donovan Dijak has already started a GoFundMe to raise money for the families of the deceased, WWE has clearly been affected by this tragedy and is doing everything they can to pay their respects. WWE developmental center is located in Orlando.

The 19-year-old Cruz has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder following the shooting, which is now the 18th school shooting in the US this year. The FBI received a tip through their general call line regarding concerns about Cruz’s violent behavior back in September, and admitted they did not act on it. The tip referenced “Cruz’s gun ownership, desire to kill people, erratic behavior, and disturbing social media posts, as well as the potential of him conducting a school shooting.”

Earlier this morning, an Ohio middle-school student shot himself causing schools in the Jackson Local School District to be on lockdown. The seventh-grader was in the bathroom when he shot himself at Jackson Memorial Middle School.

There have not been any updates on the child’s condition, but he was transported to the hospital. Jackson Local School posted on Facebook that he “suffered and apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound”. Because of this incident, four elementary schools were closed. The high school in the neighboring area was being evacuated.

The news of this comes less than a week after 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, shot and killed 17 people at a Florida high school.

Philadelphia 76ers’  shooting guard JJ Redick found himself in some trouble after a video surfaced online of him using a racial slur.

During the video, produced by Chinese media company Tencent, Redick appears to say,

“I just wanted to wish all the NBA chink fans of China a very Happy Chinese New Year.”

Redick addressed the video Sunday in a tweet, saying that he was “tongue-tied” and that the “word I purportedly said is not in my vocabulary.”

He offered a more detailed explanation in a follow-up tweet later Sunday evening, writing that he intended to say “NBA Chinese fans” before changing course mid-sentence to “NBA fans in China.”

According to ESPN, Redick’s comment was included in the video titled, “30 NBA Players Wish Chinese Fans a Happy New Year,” which aired during halftime of a game between the Golden State Warriors and the Portland Trailblazers on February 14. Tencent has since released another edited video in which Redick is not included.

Chinese-American and current Brooklyn Nets’ point guard  Jeremy Lin came out to support Redick’s apology. Lina also encouraged fans to not use hateful language toward JJ as a response to the video..

Black Panther has been said to be the most anticipated movie release during Black History Month for more reasons than one.

One reason being that the director Ryan Coogler managed to incorporate everything in the film, from politics, world issues, romance, comedy and of course, Marvel. One topic that got the proper representation was the kidnapping by Boko Haram in 2014.  Just over three years ago, 276 school girls were kidnapped by Boko Haram; an Islamic extremist group, in the Nigerian village, Chikbok. Based in northern Nigeria this group has been terrorizing the country since 2009. They have been responsible for the numerous massacres of civilians and abductions of women and little girls. This group strongly believes that western culture is “sinful” and wants to return the country to the pre colonial era of Muslim rule. Boko Haram was founded in 2002 by a Muslim cleric named Mohammed Yusuf after Nigeria’s transition from dictatorship to democracy in 1999.

One of the main reasons Boko Haram kidnapped these innocent school girls was because they wanted  their captured members freed from Nigerian prison. In May 2014 after the kidnapping Boko’s group leader, Abubakar Shekau released a video showing about 130 school girls, stating that “the girls have converted to Islam and will not be released until Nigeria frees from prison all Boko Haram members.” After many failed attempts to negotiate, and only successfully getting back 20 girls, the Nigerian’s House of Representatives put out a motion urging the executive branch to expedite negotiations for the girl’s safe return which resulted in 82 more girls being released. This left them with a little over 100 girls that have been freed from captivity, however there is still 100 plus girls still waiting to come home.

“However the work is not yet done, too many families are still anxious today. Too many of our daughters have not returned,” Senate President Abubakar Bukola said in and statement.

In Black Panther, Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia), and Danai Gurira (Okoye) managed to bring this topic to life. Lupita’s character is undercover trying to liberate a group of women from the clutches of a paramilitary outfit that is reminiscent to Boko Haram. This is not the first time that the African blockbuster duo has teamed up to add their political voices to the art. In 2016, when the Gurira’s play ECLIPSED made it to Broadway, she tapped her friend Lupita to take the lead. The play was about African women forced to live with their African soldier oppressors during the Liberian Civil War. While the play was heavy enough, showcasing young girls ripped from their homes to serve as slaves, they took it a step further and after each show called out the name of one of the Boko Haram girls.

Black Panther was another tap on the international shoulder to not forget about the girls who some are still missing. More over it is also a tap to show that Africa is not just a continent of victims, but one of powerful resources sufficient to save the world.

In the film, Nyong’o’s character tries to convince T’Challa to use Wakanda’s resources to make life better for the less fortunate populations in Africa and beyond.

“We were creating an inspirational world where African people are in charge of their own destiny,” Lupita stated.

Director Ryan Coogler had the right idea by incorporating this topic among many others in the film. What better way to get the public’s full attention then to attach it to something that every one of all ages can understand. This film allowed viewers all over the world to get a better understanding of Wakanda, and Africa as a whole.

“This is a nation that is highly developed, and they are so because they didn’t get interrupted by or assaulted by colonialism.” – Lupita Nyong’o

Even Hip-Hop’s royalty can’t have it all their way.

Jay- Z and Beyonce have been attempting to get their daughter Blue Ivy’s name trademarked since 2012, but had no success. Wedding planner, Veronica Morales has been denying the Carter’s of their request up until now.

According to Blast, Beyonce’s legal team claims that shortly after Morales objected to the trademark filing for “Blue Ivy Carter,” a meeting was set up between the two parties to hopefully settle the situation at hand, but Victoria had other plans. The meeting turned out to be a “business proposal” to sell her business to the Carters for $10 million in exchange for the trademark. Bey’s legal team said that during the meeting Morales’s counsel gave a long speech about treating the opposition as an “opportunity for a business relationship rather than an adversarial proceeding.” Veronica showed up to said meeting with a powerpoint presentation to show why Beyonce should in fact acquire her wedding planning business and her Blue Ivy trademark.

Queen Bey politely turned down the offer and is looking to get Morales and her legal team to turn over all evidence that shows proof of the sales pitch to show that the entire back and forth was all a ploy.

A Utah elementary school is receiving a lot of negativity after implementing a new rule that had most parents concerned.

Kanesville Elementary School in Ogden is known for their Valentine’s Day dance every year. This year, however was a little different. With intentions to promote “inclusion” and “kindness” the female students have been told by their teachers to say “yes” when a male classmate asks them to dance.

Talk about bad timing. In an era where we have the #MeToo movement and women empowerment, little girls are still being taught to “bow down” to her male counterparts. Natalie Richard, a parent at Kanesville Elementary, said she was shocked when her sixth- grade daughter told her that she was not allowed to refuse a dance with a boy at the upcoming dance.

“The teacher said she can’t. She has to say yes. She has to accept and I said, excuse me? It sends a bad message to girls that they have to say ‘yes’ and it sends a bad message to boys that girls can’t say no. Psychologically, my daughter keeps coming to me and saying I can’t say ‘no’ to a boy. That’s the message kids are getting,” Natalie told CNN affiliate KSTU.

The Weber School District also got the message loud and clear. In a statement that was sent to CNN, Lane Findlay, community relations specialist confirmed that the instructions for the dance have been changed. According to the statement, “attendance at the dance has typically been ‘voluntary but encouraged.’ Students are asked to fill out a dance car with names of classmates that they would like to dance with. But now students will have the rights to say no.

“In the best interest of our students, we are re- examining the procedures surrounding these dances and will make any necessary changes to promote a positive environment where all students feel included and empowered in their choices. We have advised our schools to eliminate any sort of language in the instructions surrounding these dances that would suggest a student must dance with another student.”

If last night’s All-Star game was any indication of who still runs the NBA, the answer is resoundingly clear: King James continues to rein. With the new game format on display for the first time, the game was more competitive than it has been in the past. Typically, the players go into full gear and increase the defensive pressure in the final minutes. The defensive effort was display for the majority of the game.

Led by their team captain, Team LeBron fought their way back after trailing by 10 with under 5 minutes left to go in the game. They cut the lead to seven and there was no turning back. James nearly missed a triple- double, but netted 29 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists and shot 50 percent from the 3 point line. Because these players were hand picked by the captains, there was more pride in assuring that the W was secured.

On the other hand, Team Steph’s roster featured the splash brothers, but failed to splash much of anything, as they shot 44 percent from the field and 22 percent from 3. Damian Lillard was Team Steph’s leading scorer with 21 points off the bench in his first all-star appearance.

The final minutes of the game felt more like a regular season game, rather than an exhibition. Steph Curry, who is considered by many, the greatest shooter in NBA history, was swarmed by a number of defenders and failed to get a shot off. He passed it up to Demar DeRozan in the corner but he was unable to get his shot off before time expired. Team LeBron came away victorious winning by 3, 148-145. Watch some of the key players below.
