U.S. Capitol Police and the FBI arrested a Moroccan citizen today who was planning to execute a suicide attack on thje capitol, police and a federal agent reported.
29 year old Amine Khalifi was given what he thought was a vest composed of explosives and an inoperable handgun by undercover agents, according to the federal agent. As soon as he accepted the vest, the suspect was taken into custody. Khalifi thought he’d just met Al Qaeda operatives willing to assist him, but instead he had been dealing with FBI agents.
Khalifi was a resident of Alexandria, Virginia and lived in the U.S. legally. He was also a part of a longstanding and extensive undercover operation, in which the U.S. Capitol Police were “intimately” involved in the FBI’s investigation of individual terrorists.
