Members of a self described black militia group claim that their organization will be going to Sanford, Florida next week to conduct a citizen’s arrest upon George Zimmerman, who confessed to fatally shooting an unarmed Trayvon Martin last month.
The leader of the New Black Liberation Militia, Najee Muhammad, announced yesterday that group members plan to execute the arrest and turn Zimmerman over to federal authorities since Sanford Police have failed to make the arrest. Martina’s family has condemned the Orlando suburb police department for not arresting the 28 year old, self appointed, Neighborhood Watch captain. The Sanford PD has conducted an investigation, however, they will not make the arrest because they claim to not have any evidence to disprove Zimmerman’s story.
Zimmerman admitted to shooting and killing 17 year old Trayvon Martin because he thought Martin looked suspicious. Even after Zimmerman called 911 to report what he thought was a suspicious person, he continued to follow Martin, which was against police instructions. The argument between Martin and Zimmerman escalated to a physical confrontation in which Zimmerman shot Martin, who was only found to have a can of iced tea and a bag of skittles in his pockets.
According to the group’s website, the New Black Liberation Militia is a multi-faith, spiritual,cultural, scientific, and political instructional institution. The group is based in Atlanta and its current leader is the self proclaimed top student of the controversial Dr. Khallid Abdul Muhammad.
