Back in the late 70s when Hip Hop first began to bloom, there weren’t many females in the Hip Hop arena. Sharon Green aka MC Sha Rock was one of the first women to be known as an official MC and the first female to be the part of an all male crew. The group, The Funky Four Plus One, is one of the groups that led the way for other groups to appear on the national scene. Even though many credit Run-DMC to be the first rap group to appear on syndicated television, but it was Sha Rock’s crew that was the first, appearing on Saturday Night Live years before The Hollis Crew made it to MTV.
