The New York Knicks had a quite a scare when Amare Stoudemire went out with a back injury.  It was announced that an MRI revealed he had a bulging disk in his lower back with no return date.  Throughout much of the season Amare didn’t appear to be himself.  He wasn’t attacking the boards or scoring points in the paint.  Then suddenly the old STAT reemerged and the Knicks looked like contenders again with new head coach Mike Woodson.

The Knicks roller coaster continued with an announcement of Amare possibly needed season-ending surgery.  After further review and a second opinion it turns out Amare will undergo non-surgical treatment and rehabilitation and will be out 2-4 weeks.   If he returns in 2 weeks he will be back for the final 9 games of the season.  If he returns in 4 weeks he will be back for the first round of the playoffs.  The Knicks seem to be pushing more towards a playoff return which would be best to have Amare healthy and ready to go.
