The 49ers are looking more and more like Super Bowl contenders.  In addition to adding Giants Super Bowl champ Mario Manningham, they’ve also added his teammate Brandon Jacobs.  Former Giants running back Jacobs agreed to a one-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers.  The Giants defeated the 49ers in the NFC Championship game last season.

The Giants released Jacobs rather than paying him a $500,000 roster bonus in addition to the $4.4 million due to him this season.  Jacobs won two Super Bowls with the Giants during his seven years with the team.  He rushed for 4.849 yards and 56 touchdowns.  Jacobs will join a backfield led by running back Frank Gore.  The 49ers didn’t let missing out on Peyton Manning get them down.  They resigned starting quarterback Alex Smith to a three-year deal worth up to $33 million.
