At this point who doesn’t want to join the Miami Heat?  Next up on the rumor list is Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns and Jason Terry of the Dallas Mavericks.  Both players are in the latter parts of their careers and will become free agents this summer.  Terry finally won a championship with the Mavericks last season but wasn’t offered a contract extension.  Steve Nash is still on a quest for the title and after many years of loyalty to the Suns he may finally leave if there are no improvements.

Nash is currently sixth on the NBA’s career assist list with 9,779 and is a two-time season MVP.  During an interview with Dan Patrick, Nash stated I definitely do want to win. I’m not going to come back to the Suns if there isn’t an improvement, if they’re not ambitious and they’re not looking to upgrade the roster seriously. I think they are. They’ll have a lot of flexibility in free agency. I’ve been standing pat in many ways so they could do some things this summer.”

When asked about the possibility of joining the Miami Heat Nash said, “I would listen. [LeBron James] is phenomenal. I love what they’re doing there. A lot of people don’t like them because they put all that talent together. But they’re professional, they play hard, they play together and their coaching staff has done a great job. I have a tremendous amount of respect for them, and I would definitely listen.”

When asked about the Miami Heat, Jason Terry had this to say, “No question, they need a veteran shooter, a guy who can score besides LeBron (James) and (Dwyane Wade), and they know they can count on. I’m a guy that’s been in this league 13 years, (averaging) 15 points a night, easy. Off the bench or the starting lineup, it doesn’t matter. So I think I’d be an asset to them.”

Terry says the Mavericks do want him and he may very well end up staying with the team.  Nash may stay with the Suns if they improve the roster.  However if both decide to leave the Miami Heat could only offer them the mid-level exception, which means big cut.  One thing’s for sure the offseason will be very interesting.
