From The Courtroom At The Jimmy Rosemond Trial
May 15, 2012—Eastern District Brooklyn Court—2 P.M. A day after opening arguments in the Jimmy Rosemond trial, the prosecutors launched heavily into their case. The former manager of rappers The Game and Gucci Mane, known in the Hip-Hop community as Jimmy “Henchmen” Rosemond, is being accused of a leading a criminal enterprise pushing million dollars worth of cocaine, laundering money and tampering with witnesses (NY Times). Today, there were over 10 others identified and presented to the jury allegedly involved in the scheme the government seeks to charge Jimmy Rosemond in masterminding. Of them, prosecutors called Ramon Perez, Supervisor of the Drug Enforcement Agency. The prosecution seeks to pin the trafficking of these drug charges on Rosemond. Mr. Perez testified that in August 25th, 2009, he uncovered plastic wrapped boxes of cocaine that were packed and stacked in boxes and then shipped from Los Angeles and taken to Manhattan.
Later, prosecution called another witness Khalil Abdullah who testified that he knew Rosemond from 2008 to 2011 and sold drugs under Rosemond’s supervision and control.
Jimmy Rosemond now contests and says that is all one big set up. The defense for Rosemond will argue to the contrary and seek to cross-examine the prosecutions witness after the break.
Rosemond’s lawyer Gerald L. Shargel called his client “a perfect scapegoat for accusation” in his opening statement yesterday. Over the years, various media outlets have even connected Rosemond with the feud that led to the murders of Tupac and Biggie.
