The Source Reports From Inside The Courtroom At The Jimmy Rosemond Trial

May 16, 2012 — Eastern District Brooklyn Court — 6 P.M. Today, the prosecution completed their direct examination of witness Khalil Abdullah. Afterwards, Rosemond’s attorney Gerald Shargel began his cross-examination of Abdullah, focusing heavily on a prior shooting incident between Abdullah and an unrelated 3rdparty and trying to impeach is credibility. Defense walked through a proffer agreement that was made between Khalil Abdullah and the prosecution–the terms of which stated that Abdullah sold at least 150 kilos of cocaine. The agreement stated that no criminal charges would be brought against Abdullah. At the time this agreement was made, Abdullah was facing a significant amount of time in prison.

During Shargel’s cross-examination of Abdullah, he asked, “who determines if you are telling the truth?” Abdullah’s response: “the prosecution.” Then Shargel asked, “if you told the truth and the government thought it was a lie, what would happen?” Abdullah responded, “I guess it would be no deal.”

Other questions surrounded whether or not Rosemond controlled activities related to drug activity or whether that activity was controlled by Abdullah.

In addition to Abdullah, the court heard testimony from other witnesses, including Daniel Deitz, Executive VP for 27 years at Rocket Cargo, Mitchell Waxler, a studio manager for four years at Smash Studios in New York and DEA special agent Victoria Delollo.

Rosemond was indicted last July on 13 counts for allegedly heading a cocaine trafficking ring that grossed over $10 million a year. He is also being accused of money laundering and witness tampering.

In related news, allhiphop.com reported that L.A. Times writer Chuck Phillips was removed from the courtroom. In 2008, the L.A. Times published an article that claimed that Rosemond was behind the 1994 shooting of Tupac Shakur at Quad Studios. The Times later ran a retraction and paid Rosemond a $250,000 settlement.
