The Life Files caught up with Nas recently and brought up the state of redundancy and lack of style in hip hop. Nas answered the inquiries honestly, admitting he tries to keep up with what’s coming out but the pure amount of new material makes it virtually impossible.

He was respectful of the contemporary artists, explaining “it’s just people expressing themselves…however you feel like doing it, do it…some s*** I don’t listen to, and some s*** does not sound good to me, and some s*** sounds nothing like what I do but it’s amazing to me.” Although he regretted to say that the game lacks “look, experience, style, and stage presence,” he seemed quick to compliment Rick Ross, Meek Mill and Weezy’s originality in their style and voices.

Concerning Obama, Nas had nothing but positivity: “I support Barack Obama and everything he does…I never paid too much attention or cared about a President’s life until he got into office because I didn’t feel they cared about my life.” Following that powerful statement, Nas went onto show his logic when discussing politics, saying “I think he cares about all Americans… A lot of people want him to cater only to African Americans. That’s ridiculous.”

With the intelligent and eloquent answers Nas gave The Life Files, we can only hope he has societal commentary equal to this on his upcoming album, “Life Is Good,” that’s slated to drop July 17th.
